For parents of seniors - summer plans?

Wanted to find out what your sons or daughters are planning for summer? Work, study programs of just plain "chilling"?

Work. Not that she really wants to! ;) She has been offered her job back as a coach for sports camps. We'll see how many hours she gets.

just plain "chilling"?

What's that? ;)

Work! Work! Work!

The money they earn will be used for extraneous college expenses.

Hopefully a national speech competition. Otherwise, work to earn money for school.

How much work is reasonable - part-time, full-time? DS has worked hard for 4 years and the past 2 summers (Internships etc) and doesn't want to work the whole summer. Not looking forward to having DS sitting in front of the computer for 3 months!

work for expenses (he better..lol), then a graduation cruise in July.

he earned it.

he got into an Ivy.

My son will be working at the local fast food joint -- the only one in our county. We also plan at trip to SC to see his grandparents. Maybe we'll think of something else good to do, too.

S1 will very happily return to the same job he's held for the last three years (though he was too young to get paid for it the first year) - 8 weeks of full-time work.

Beyond that, I'll be very happy to see him relaxing. Except for the getting-up-at-noon part - that's always pretty hard to take.

Part time job

Community college course

Piano lessons and sewing lessons (D wants to continue with piano until school starts, but totally laid-back teacher/lessons - fun stuff only; sewing is also something she wants to tackle for fun - and since I can't even sew a button back on a shirt decently, D wants to learn from someone - ummm - proficient.)

noon?

thats pretty early.

consider yourself lucky. ;)

We're all going on a family vacation (with D, S and his GF plus DH and me) early on then D is working. She was promoted from a volunteer at the local zoo to working in the same regional area. The area manager was thrilled that she could finally pay her for what she has been doing as a volunteer for the past few years. It's full time, some days she has to be there at 7 and she works every weekend but has days off during the week.

S will hopefully work PT, sleep and play. It will be refreshing for him to have NOTHING really on his plate!

D2 will not work on weekends. We will FINALLY be able to get to the cabin and get out on the lake almost every weekend!!! :)

My D aiming to work about 30 hours/week. She hopes to get hired back by the municipal waterpark where she worked last summer. They sent an invitation to reapply for this year, which seems promising. It'll go mostly for her college spending money.

Work. She has to get more cash set aside to cover her extra expenses; her father and I already told her she's on her own when it comes to 'fun' money.

We took a big family vacation last November...planned as the final "family" hurrah...since we realize with her starting college in the fall and her brother following along in three years, they'll both be tied up during summers working.

I got home ready to berate S about summer jobs and he handed me a form as I walked
in to sign...it was a job application.

lol

kids...they constantly surprise us, no?

Probably selling coupon books door to door. Not even fast food jobs available here in Michigan (DS has applied to about 10 places).

She wants to work if she can find the perfect job.

D will go on a final school trip, to France, right after graduation.

Hopefully she'll be able to find employment somewhere. The tricky part will be the amount of time she'll need off. 8 days for the France trip. A weekend for graduation, another for the party when she returns, and another two weekends away planned. Not to mention time off for orientation.

We're debating whether she should begin before school ends. The pros are that she can make more money and perhaps the employer will be more willing to let her have the time off she'll need. The biggest negative is that she has her toughest school schedule NOW. She'll have a few finals that will be pretty important.

S will work and, hopefully, FBLA Nationals for Econ. We will try to spend off time together since it looks like he will be going OOS (no weekends home for laundry, etc.)
