Best made movie/deepest: The Matrix

South park bigger longer and uncut, 28 days later, matrix 1+2, scarface, tombstone, LOTR triology, Rush Hour 1+2, and i probably forgot a million more

Please no stuff like "Finding Nemo" if you can resist.

Why not? There's nothing wrong with "high-brow" films, but you need "normal" things sometimes, too.

Best made movie/deepest: The Matrix

It was definitely the most mind-awing film of the day. Every piece of it was so well put together, and even though it was in a way science fiction (I don't know the exact genre), but it slowly degraded because of the sequels. In my opinion, the first Matrix did not completely fit the definition of the typical sci fi movie, because it had a lot of deeper meaning, etc, and it also made the audience think outside the box. However, as the sequels followed, the thinking was lost, and it was a lot more action without the deeper meaning. Does anyone agree/disagree?

Stand By Me, Mean Girls, Heathers, Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River...

I'll remember more later. :)

I completely agree. The Matrix is one of my favorite movies and the next two were a great dissapointment. They should have just stopped after the first, but they wanted to make more money by peddling out garbage.

Mystic River, The Crucible, I am Sam, LOTR......bunsh of others I can't recall right now.

I love Sean Penn...

Harry Potter XP, Garden State, The Notebook, The Pianist, Harold and Maude

48 replies and only 2 mentions of the Shawshank Redemption? That's appalling. I think the problem here is that no ones ever seen it. I've never talked to anyone who's seen it and didn't love it. What is there not to like?

Inspirational? check.
great theme/deep meaning? check.
great acting? Morgan Freeman was brilliant in this movie.
Great ending? si.

In my opinion, the best movie ever made.

Oh, and the score is absolutely amazing. Worth buying even without the actual movie.

-Saving Private Ryan
-Scent of a Woman
-The Bourne Supremacy
-Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (go ahead, laugh...I thought the show was hilarious, not to mention inspiring (not about being mean to kids))

Oh yeah, the Shawshank Redemption was a brilliant movie, but some parts were disturbing.
A movie I saw--it was supposed to be a classic--was called Raging Bull. I didn't enjoy it.

Cruel Intentions is uberfab. Ryan Phillippe (sp?) is gorgeous and it's really not cheesy compared to other teen movies. Sarah Michelle Gellar looked her best in here and Reese Witherspoon's performance was very good. My favorite song of all time plays at the end: "Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve.

As Good As It Gets with Helen Hunt and Jack Nicholson is also great. I've seen it at least six times. Very funny. But hey, it moves me too. :D

Million Dollar Baby

Cruel Intentions

American Beauty

Anyone here see Wedding Crashers? It was really funny, despite my initial feelings about it.

Waking Life, Clockwork Orange, 2001, American Beauty, Adaptation, etc.

Shoalin Soccer, Dogma, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, the Shawshank Redemption, Schindler's List, and a few others that have slipped my mind.

amelie
one flew over the cuckoo's nest
the life of david gale
newsies

Silence of the lambs(cant believe i forgot) + Red Dragon
