So i have to write an essay on my favorite quotation and why i like it. Personally, i love both "Never go backwards" and "Don't cry because its over, smile because it happened." This first one is said by an awesome teacher of mine, and the second one is Dr. Suess...so, i'm not sure if the people really matter, but which do you all think would be more conducive to a good essay. i could go in depth and give personal stories with both. Does one stand out as clearly a better choice?

Both sound simplistic and immature to me. :P

because its easy to use a complicated quotation and explain how it effects me in 250 words or less. plus it asks for my favorite quote, not the biggest one that makes me sound the most intelligent.

Okay then.

Either one, I think, could be turned into an essay. I like the first one because it reminds me of a quote in Avi's *Perloo the Bold/i: When you take one backward step, it requires two steps to go forward.

Come on, would you really choose based on the quote? They don't care what quote you use or if it's your first, second, or third favorite. They care about the essay and what it reveals about you. How about outlining both essays and determining which one has the most potential for you to reveal yourself? It's all about your analysis and connection.

Personally, I don't think I would be able to demonstrate anything critical about myself with either quote. But if you can provide (objective, not emotional) insight into your own life with either, then, by all means, go right ahead.

what college is that for?

I like the Dr. Suess one, mostly because I believe that you sometimes do have to go backward before you can go forward, and the Suess quote could be used to reference an experience.

I like both of them, but I also like the idea of quoting a teacher. It's something different, and you'll be able to write on a more personal level. Also, I'm sure that a lot of people will use that Dr. Suess one because it's so well-known; if you use one that a teacher said it'll make you unique. Good luck with whichever you choose!

"I fly with souls who find no peace." - Stephan Jenkins

Stop being so open-minded; one day it's going to cause your brain to fall out.

"If life hands you lemons, squeeze them in someone's eyes and run like hell." =P

Actually, I wrote an essay over this once
"To finish first, you must first finish."
