i would have to say the 9-0 (901 club), the dorms, the campus (beautiful!!), the cinema library, ground zero milkshakes, upstairs commons thanks to friends with the trojan mealplan, 24 hour trojan grounds, football games, and so much more!!! the food on the whole is not great but is tolerable.

-24 hour TroGro is awesome
-The tower with the orb thing on top is majestic at night
-The other students; bright and interesting
-The girls are smokin

I'm an out of state student (Pennsylvania) and I went to UCLA for 6 weeks last summer time. Even though I thought the campus was beautiful and the food fantastic, the class I took was a big JOKE.

I don't know if it's public education, the West Coast, or what. I'm not used to sitting in a classroom of 200 students with a professor who does not speak English.

I've never been to USC but I'm applying to both. To me, I want to attend USC b/c I'll feel like I'm getting my worth back for what I've paid. USC does not judge students depending on whether they're from California or not. They choose the ones who are most competitive. Also, there's a better student-to-faculty ratio at USC.

I was wondering if there's anything else great you can tell me about USC :) I've never experienced the campus myself... All I've heard from UCLA students are that the campus is "ghetto" and the classes are mostly compatible with community colleges' classes.

I like how rooted USC feels in the community. Outsiders complain about USC being in an area of Los Angeles that isn't as nice as they would like, but it really encourages USC and all its neighbors to work together in building the community.

well fraternity row looks like fraternity row if ya know what i mean. i spent some time with the christian fraternity, which, i know is not representative of the fraternity system, and everyone was so welcoming. but just in general, of all the guys i've met at usc, they're all very genuine and i'd love to be friends with any one of them. there just seems to be a sense of confidence exuded throughout the campus--not just with the guys. everyone on campus is a trojan and it's clear to see.

My S & the guys I met when we were helping him get set up at move-in day were very nice. He has lots of nice kids from his HS & others from HI that matriculated at USC with him, as well as many nice friends he's made from everywhere else.
One thing that I really like about USC is that it has a huge international student body, that really adds diversity & depth to the school.
It's also easy to get to & from the LAX airport via a shuttle that will pick you up & drop you off on campus. They also have a free shuttle that goes from the Park campus to the Health Services campus.
As a parent, I love that the school is very resposive to questions we have. I also love that they give lots of merit aid & only require a 3.0 GPA to keep your merit scholarship (some schools require a 3.5 or higher).
My S has gotten involved in a lot of fun activities at USC--racquetball, rock climbing, camping with his dorm, ultimate frisbee, attending ALL USC football games at the Collesium. He has managed to do this & keep up very good grades in engineering.

HImom,
just curious, what engineering is your S in? I'm planning on studying mechanical or aerospace engineering. does he have enough time for a social life outside of his classes and labs?

trojans, TROJAN LOVERS...how can you forget our AWESOME 10-time national championship football team!
[/quote]

Actually, they are now claiming 11 national championships :) the 1939 season ended with Texas A&M winning the AP national championship and USC winning in another poll - and after the 2003 debacle, they decided the '39 season counted as well.

dunno, they are still AWESOME no matter what...even more awesome are my rose bowl tickets :)

Hey bluebeard, just finished my 1st semester in aerospace with a 3.9 GPA AND an amazing social life! It is all about how you manage your time. Work hard, play harder - it can be done, even if you are an engineer. Go Trojans!

My S hasn't declared his major in engineering yet & most classes in 1st year are pretty set anyway (not many options to choose among). He hasn't found the courses too tough & has had quite a bit of time to make lots of new friends, started rock climbing, racquetball, plays intramural soccer and ultimate frisbee, has attended all the collesium USC football games, camped with his dorm, gone on outings to Chinatown & around LA. I'd say he's VERY happy with his USC social life & his engineering grades are better than his HS grades. His competitive HS prepared him & his peers very well for college life & they are all doing well at their respective schools, including those at USC, ivys and other top schools.

i like that usc has strong alumni, and therefore the school can be very helpful in acquiring finding students internships/employment
It's also a bit smaller than UCLA (not that there aren't pluses to UCLA as well)
