Difference? Which is better?

Take Work-study, you can get more money out of it. There’s no difference besides the max amount of money you can get per year.

With work study, do i have the opportunity to work for professors in my degree program?

Yeah, but that process is independent of Chancellor’s Aide and work-study. You should probably first talk to someone in financial aid services to see if anyone in your department of interest has available jobs. If not, then you’ll have to talk to professors within your department and see if they are looking for help.

What department are you looking to work in, if I may ask? Some departments it’s relatively easy to work with professors (i.e. in the sciences and some philosophy) otherwise most professor’s don’t need any help individually. But the department itself may need help if they offer a particular service, in their offices, etc., and you can get a job doing that, but you may not work with many professors.

The answer to your question is something I don’t even know yet. My intended major is architecture, and I’m planning to see if I like it first semester enough to continue. If that does not work out, I will probably switch to a humanities major, because I have a strong interest in that.

Also LSU is a great school, but, from what I understand, working with faculty is important if you have greater things planned for yourself after college.

Alright, well in case you end up talking to a financial aid person and they tell you that there’s not any jobs available. You might consider talking to a counselor and explore the option of doing a thesis when you graduate. When you do a thesis, you are paired with a “research mentor” (a professor) of your choosing and you’ll get to spend more time with that professor as they help you do your thesis. It’s one way to develop a relationship with a professor outside of directly working for them.

I don’t know about federal work study, but for Chancellor’s the department assigns a professor to you, so you don’t have to go around asking for someone.

Works the same way for Work Study. I only suggested asking professors, so that you’ll be able to research something you have an interest in as opposed to doing work you hate.
