Daughter is a HS sophomore and trying to figure out what we will do next year for SAT prep. Anyone have feedback about Testive and also Kaplan classes (which are held at our high school)? Thanks!
Just giving a bump up! Would really love any feedback about Testive as I know no one who has used them but their model looks very interesting and seriously considering using for our rising Junior. Thanks!
I don’t know anything about Testive, but my 3 kids all took kaplan group SAT prep courses. The course was beneficial for all of them, mostly by providing some structured time for them to focus on practice.
The instructors taught them some general strategies to use for different types of questions. The full length practice tests they took helped them learn how to pace themselves and be more relaxed for the real thing.
They also spent some minimal time at home reviewing the incorrect responses they had on their practice tests, which helped identify areas they needed to focus on improving.
I think the courses were a convenient, not crazy expensive alternative to nagging the kids to study on their own.
2 of my kids also took the ACT, and took a few practice tests on their own to prep for it. Turned out I did not not have to nag them much, but I think they were more comfortable, having taken the SAT already.
@mamag2855 Thank you for this feedback! Good to know about Kaplan!
@mamag2855 I also thank you for the feedback on Kaplan. I just signed my son up for a July session through his school for only $5 (can’t beat the price). They’re doing it over 8 days (3 hours a day) with 2 full length practice tests. He found it tough to discipline himself to self study before the May SAT, and so he is retaking it in August. Thanks again!
