Hi, I've just completed my GWU application and interested in feedback.
Hopefully, I will transfer as a Junior and my major is Accounting or possibly Finance. I attended a mid-western private university and my gpa is 3.58. I've taken both macro and micro Econ, Statistics, Acct 1 and 2 as well as other classes within my major.

Since I have 60 credits, GWU won't consider my SAT scores or HS grades. I was advised to make a scheduled campus visit - done. An admission officer also advised me to concentrate on the essay as my grades are certainly acceptable but not outstanding.
I'm publishing my essay and asking for reviews. I've only a few days before submission.

Thanks!

I never imagined myself attending college in Washington, DC. However, following a recent rainy morning tour of George Washington University, I can no longer imagine myself anywhere else. Despite the weather and hiding under my poncho, I embraced the energy and beauty of the campus. The fall semester was in full swing students walked with smiles and a clear sense of purpose. Diversity was everywhere! It was exciting to see vibrant academia meshed into the heart of the nations Capitol. My tour guide gave a brief, yet incredible insiders view of life as a GW student. Between advance research and the campus tour, my eyes were opened to a new realm of possibilities both in my future career and hopefully, my future education.

As an accounting major, there are a number of specific attributes that brought GW to my attention. The fact that more than 50% of classes have fewer than 20 students is attractive as it will allow better interaction with professors. Furthermore, I love that many professors are deeply integrated in professions outside of the classroom. This unique real-world experience will prove invaluable. I believe the approachability of GW professors combined with the campus location will offer an ideal environment in which to learn about the confluence of business and governmenthow they interact to impact social innovation and progress. The Business Schools long list of distinguished graduates is further assurance that GW is fully capable of preparing me with the knowledge and skills that I need.

Although I love accounting (honestly, I do), it would be remiss of me to leave you with only one interest. Over the past years, my extracurricular pursuits have spanned piano, sky diving, figure skating, rock-climbing, and everywhere in-between. I believe that I thrive best in a social and engaging environment, and it took very little time in our tour to recognize that GW is exactly that. As someone with loads of energy and numerous interests, I am excited by the many extracurricular possibilities that GW has to offer.

Possibility, or the hope thereof, is in fact a primary reason for seeking a change. My previous college, chosen due to family ties, did not proffer the vigor or forward-thinking atmosphere to which I aspire. I may be generalizing, but the majority of students and professors had very similar opinions about political, religious, and philosophical views." The education was excellent however, the environment was less challenging than I had hoped for. I believe GW offers everything that I was missing and more.

In conclusion, GWs mission statement was made visible both during my visit, and in my conversations with previous students. The school truly does offer an environment where knowledge is created and acquired and where creative endeavors seek to enrich the experiences of the global society. It is with eagerness that I hope to join in this mission.
