Interested in knowing about experiences at the Cornell Summer Study for HS students. Anyone attend?

My D took a three-week psychology course a few summers ago and loved it. (She's a Cornell junior now.) The prof even told the kids that if they got an A he'd write them a recommendation letter.

In case you're wondering, Cornell was VERY strict with the kids, even having bed checks (!) each night at midnight. Quite a contrast to real college life.

I went this summer for the Vet Program, and LOVED it.
Night check was at 11 on weeknights, and 12 on Fri/Sat though. But after they checked that you were in your building, you could move around within that building. Like, I stayed in Mennen. At 11, I had to be in my doorway, but as soon as the night check marked me, I could roam around Mennen all I wanted.
The Vet program was amazing. I really loved it. My friends in Psych and Computer Science and some other courses all had fun. The food was delicious (of course), and they gave bus passes to the kids in the Vet Prog, because it was so far to the Vet School.
I think they did a really good job of giving us things to do; there was a free bowling night, a trip to the syracuse mall, and some other things.

And the RAs hinted that if you do the summer session, and apply early to Cornell, you're chances go wayyyyy up, because it shows such a strong interest in the school.

Thanks for your reply. My D will study law during her three week stay. We are hoping that it will be a rewarding and fun experience.

does anybody know how selective it is to get in? (i'm interested in the 3-week business one). Thanks!

It's not very selective at all, none of these summer programs are. They just want your money.

hey, password. hahah.

okay, well its kinda selective to get in, but not that selective. i have an 3.7ish (almost 3.8) GPA, and my essays werent too spectacluar, at least i didnt think so. i thought the hardest part was writing the essays and revising and editing them.

also, i got a 170 on my PSATs. idk if they looked at them, but thats what i got. hahah. (Im a sophmore BTW)

if your GPA is good, and your essays are okay, you shouldnt really have a problem. GOOD LUCK!

~teejay18

thanks pl224/teejay18. i'm a sophmore too! my gpa isn't great at all and i haven't taken the psats yet. I am thinking of applying for the summer between junior/senior year. so I will have psats, sats, and hopefully a LOT greater gpa then. Good luck and hopefully you get in!

do it if you have the money and you're sure you want to go to cornell. if you do well in the program, you have a good chance. if you do poorly, you have a bad chance of getting into cornell. i did architecture, so hit me up if you have questions on that. and yes, they are very strict with their students. but i had a great time too

wow. now i'm kind of scared because what if I do poorly? Can anybody comment on the difficulty of the programs? thanks! cuase i wouldn't want to end up doing poorly and hurting my chances, which probably indicate i'm not smart enough for cornell, bu still...! haha. well.thanks!

if you have the diligence and try hard enough then you'll be fine. but of course i shouldn't be the only one talking because i took architecture and the way you're evaluated in architecture is very different. most students do pretty well. some students slack off or aren't as serious so they don't do as well. overall if you are diligent and ambitious enough, you'll do fine.

in architecture, some theories are hard to grasp because everything is very theoretical....so some ppl get it..some don't. it's not based on how smart you are in architecture

I plan on attending this summer. I hope it's worth the $7,595.00 it costs. Maybe I'll see you there
