Ugh I don’t have a good feeling. DS a senior and was going to do Accelerated Masters for Aero for a 5th year which is paid for with his scholarship. Now he tells me he switched to double majoring in Aerospace and Physics. He can give me no real reason why this would be a good idea. I just can’t get over thinking he’s missing such a good opportunity and it’s not like those two majors will make him more desirable as a new hire??
Can you clarify - is it going to take a fifth year to complete both majors? Instead of spending Year 5 on the Master’s degree?
Correct. 5th year paid for.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it (especially if the scholarship covers the degree).
The accelerated masters program isn’t always the best choice. He may not be interested in taking the GRE, doing undergraduate research, etc, which are all usually requirements of these programs.
Perhaps he’ll pursue a “funded” standard masters program (in AE or Physics)? In some cases that’s the better choice.
The Physics degree may or may not help his career (based on which classes he takes and what specialties he pursues), but if it’s something he loves, and he can afford to take it, let him.
Of course, this also means he gets another season of college football…always a plus. :-bd
Is it possible that he has fine-tuned career goals where he believes physics would be beneficial? Grad school objectives?
