I’m a current high school junior unsure whether or not my extracurriculars are considered strong to top tier colleges. I’m salutatorian of my relatively competitive school (10+ kids to Ivies each year), and by the end of senior year I’ll have taken 14 AP exams. My SAT scores place me in the mid-50th percentile for Ivy League institutions, and I plan on taking 4 SAT subject tests and the ACT before the end of my junior year. Disregarding quantitative statistics, I know that strong EC’s can increase your chances, so I’d really appreciate any feedback/critique on my extracurricular list. Thanks!
- Founder, Director of a national neuroscience journal that publishes research from students under 20 and posts bi-monthly educational articles to make the brain more accessible to younger generations
- Neuroscience research in a laboratory at a local university; my research has won regional and state awards, and I plan on aiming for national in my senior year
- Founder, Director of a not-for-profit educational STEM program that provides young girls with lessons to dispel implicit biases regarding women in STEM education; I teach and crafted a curriculum for 15 girls
- Creative writing; my work has been published in over 15 unique online publications, and I've won a few regional/state awards for my writing; again, I plan on aiming for national this year and senior year
- Founder, Editor in Chief of an international literary publication; website solicits around 1,000 views every week; 1 issue published so far
- Editor in Chief of my school's literary publication; magazine has won a few national accolades
- President of my school's Key Club chapter, which is basically a generic community service and leadership club
- Editor for a national literary magazine
- Ambassador for a website that strives to make college more accessible to low-income teens
- Possibly (?) going to be the Founder/President of a female empowerment club at my school, though I'm not sure if I can commit 100% yet because of how many other EC's I'm juggling
Again, all feedback and criticism is welcome. My dream schools are either Columbia or Stanford, though with those >6% acceptance rate, I have multiple match/safety schools lined up just in case.
