I am thinking of taking the following classes my junior year and am wondering if my schedule is not rigorous enough? Are these good classes to take as a junior? I am taking AP Macro, AP Micro, and AP Computer Science Principles this year so have taken AP before. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
AP Bio
AP Computer Science A
AP English Language
APUSH
French V Honors
Precalc
Writer’s Workshop Honors (Should I replace this with AP GOV or another course? Is this not a rigorous enough course?)
Where is lunch? Taking AP Bio and APUSH will be a nightmare. Although, check with other students to see how APUSH is taught. Usually, APUSH is considered to be the hardest AP. How are you doing with AP Computer Science principles?
@NASA2014 I am taking lunch, that is my 9th period (sorry I didn’t include that on my list) I have an A- in AP Macro/Micro and an A+ in Computer Science Principles.
Its rigorous enough. The question of if its too rigorous can be answered by asking yourself how hard your previous classes were and how you did in them.
I would have a double bio class twice a week and a study hall three times a week. Don’t colleges look at the AP classes offered at your school compared to the ones you take? I already took honors chem instead of AP this year and not sure if this will hurt my chances? I am doing regular bio over the summer and am a strong history student.
^^ Taking Honors Chemistry instead of AP is fine. It is not like “oh if you don’t take every AP you’re not going to get into colleges.” Colleges will recognize the fact the you did Honors Chemistry and challenged yourself. Also, have you taken Honors Biology as a prerequisite in a class? Because I don’t think that taking bio over the summer and then doing AP Bio is a good idea. Honors Bio is already hard and AP Bio is just going to get harder. I am also a strong history person (or I like to think ha) and I did consider taking AP Bio next year. However, a lot of the juniors say it’s a lot of work and I looked at the syllabus for AP Bio at my school and the amount of work you have to do is horrendous. But, I am not saying that you shouldn’t do it. If you have a true interest for Bio or want to major in a science or medical field, then by all means, take it. If you don’t, why are you taking a college level class on something you don’t like? Sorry for this long message but hope this is helpful!
In regards to biology, my school does not require any prerequisite for AP bio (except taking either AP or honors chem). I am doing regular bio over the summer b/c honors bio isn’t offered in such a short amount of time. No one in my school has taken any bio before AP, I go to a very challenging/rigorous school. I am only doing bio over the summer because I know AP is hard and want to have a basic background of the course before going into it. The main reason I am thinking of taking AP Bio is because I plan to apply to competitive schools which (at least I’ve heard) want at least one AP science course. @davidyekwonkim I have heard AP Bio is horrendous which is why I am not sure. The kids at my school complain all the time but then again they are all really smart yet are complaining about a 93. Still weighing my options but really questioning whether summer bio is worth it???
Summer Bio is the best option for you, schedule could always be made more rigorous. Instead of Writer’s workshop can’t you take AP GAP? Or AP COMP GOV? Colleges usual like to see a civics course!
Okay thanks, I am already worried that this schedule may be TOO rigorous not thinking about adding any more APs at this point! Bio especially sounds difficult
