Feedback on the Biological Chemistry Major at Wellesley

I am an ED applicant for Wellesley this year, and if I get accepted, I am strongly considering majoring in biological chemistry. From the website, I understand that it is an interdisciplinary major comprised of biochemistry and molecular biology components. Can anyone who has experience with this program please give me some details about their experiences, and what kinds of research they did? I would love to hear whatever anyone has to offer. Thanks!

Hey GoldenGirl,

I was a biology major at Wellesley, but had friends who were biochem majors. They all really liked their major because it really suited their interests. Me, I wasn’t as into all the molecular biology stuff, so I knew it wouldn’t have been the right choice for me. As for research, I can’t remember now what their specific projects were about (it’s been a few years since I graduated), but every year there are opportunities for students to present research/independent projects/etc. I went to the Wellesley website and found the pdf abstract booklets of the Ruhlman conference and the summer Science Center research program. You should take a look at these to get a sense of what biochemistry majors (and others!) do outside of the classroom.

Note: these are pretty large pdf files. Give them time to load.
