Hey, guys:
I am currently at UVA, and wanna get in IB industry(first choice)/ TOP 4 accounting firms, then a top 10 business school. I love UVA but ive heard its reputation in those fields is not strong enough for me to secure a position. As i dont have many connections myself,i am thinking if i need to transfer to another university with better reputation and stronger network. My questions are should i transfer next yr and where should i transfer,Penn,Dart,Duke,Stanford,Cornell,Columbia,Northwestern,Uchicago? (both in a need and have a chance)

Sth. more about myself( i dont know if it is useful, but just in case. I am freshman now with a gpa of 4.0, major in econ &math, vice president of a school club and in a leadership pragram. Btw, i am an international.)

Any input is highly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

UVAkid, my friend has a daughter who did very well at UVA. She had a 3.8+ and maybe even 3.9. She got a job with a major consulting firm and could have gone almost anywhere she wanted. If you are doing that well at UVA, stick it out. Trust me, you will be well-qualified for many things and top companies will be quite open to you.

If you love UVA then I would advise you to stay. You seem like you are off to a very good all around start where you are. Remember, you can always transfer next year if you realize that UVA is not where you really want to be. In terms of investment banking opportunities, you will have many doors open to you if you maintain a very good gpa. Although, not as many opportunities as some other schools.

thanks guys....one more trouble...i plan not to apply for our undergraduate biz school and major in fiance or accounting...just wondering if it will ruin my chance as an econ&math major? Any suggestions about that?

Plus, red sox 7327, i dont have too much knowledge about the industry. May you explain the exact meaning of" not as many opportunities as some other schools"? Is that mean we will get much smaller chance than those ivy schools to get interviews or may you just list some comparable schools which have silimilar reputation as UVA in the wall street? I have no idea about the school reputation stuff which makes me feel lost now...thanks!

A strong university network is just one component of your education. If you like UVA, stay. It's an amazing school with a lot to offer. Like any state school though, you will have to take more initiative when it comes to a job search. Go find internship opportunities; don't expect them to be handed to you on a silver platter. UVA is a top public university and employers know that.
