Hey guys, soo Im a freshman electrical engineering, yesturday I took my phy 107 exam, and I do not understand 2 problems out of 4, I know Im probably ending up with like a 50 out of 100 or so, Im feeling pretty lost right now, I did study pretty hard for this exam, I reviewed all my hw question and last year’s exam, but the 2 question given on the exam which i dont understand wasn’t even close to anything I studied( or at least I felt this way). I prepared a formula sheet but I didnt even bother to use it, nothing on it was helping me… i dont feel like ee is longer a goood path for me anymore… ( 2 more phy class ahead )… any comments and suggestions … thx
Don’t get discouraged yet! Are the exams curved? You may not end up with an awful grade.
Many decades ago I struggled through Physics as an EE major. I had been the valedictorian of my high school and had never ever had a B. I was completely crushed by college physics… I’m guessing you’ve always been pretty strong in math and science and you are not used to feeling like this. I stuck with my EE course requirements (hating physics along the way) and did much better in my regular engineering classes. I didn’t get tons of A’s but I kept my scholarship, graduated and had a career in electrical engineering. There will be tests where you just have no clue. After you get it back, visit your prof during office hours and maybe try to figure out where you could have missed this information. Maybe the approach will help you in the future. Also, if your school has a tutoring / resource center, you may want to visit it prior to your next exam. I know my daughter’s school has specific tutoring for the tough physics and chemistry classes that are rocking the freshmen engineering students right now. The tutors will most likely have personal experience with these profs and their exams and may have some helpful tips.
Thank you for posting this… so I’m taking a remake, so the average was 61. to be honest im not really good at math and physics and stuff, but I really want a good grade, in fact, I have about 10 hours or so of tutor session for this exam. I was doing fine with my tutor and I do understand all the concept from the hw problem and practice quesitons. but this exam completely overwhelmed me… idk if it is only me or all students whos taking the remake exam…I’ll try to keep it up… thank you again ! it is helpful!
Hope it worked out well for you in the end. And good habit of working with a tutor - it helps. I’ll tell you right now though, not having a good grasp of physics and math will be detrimental to you as you progress in the curriculum (calc 3, diff eq, physics 2/3). You still have one more year to get yourself together, but EE only gets more difficult and you dont feel like you can handle the work load or difficulty, I’d suggest you look into other major possibilities.
