...feeling hopeless, please help!

Hi guys,
This quarter is coming to an end; and I (currently a junior) did some calculations, I will mostly likely to end up with a B in AP English for this quarter and to end up B for 4th quarter as well.
I don’t have fancy leverages as other applicants. I had worked for past 2 years and have to work on weekends in my parents’ restaurant, never participated in a school sport team nor out of school sport team, I’m not a officer in major clubs/society at my school (currently in beta, key, nas, those community service oriented associations).
I have gotten straight As so far, but after this semester my unweighted GPA will drop to a 3.96 and weighted to a 4.71
I’ve taken 4 APs so far (AP Chem, APHUG, APUSH, AP English), and I’ve signed up for 7 APs (mostly science, and I’m confident to ace them with an A) next year.
I’m not a liberal art type of student, and the only reason I chose to take AP English was to challenge myself.
I love chemistry, so much so I’m committed to major in it. So far my grade in chem is 99%, whereas in english its 85%.
I have not yet taken SAT, but I’m scheduled to take my first one on June 6th.
I have done several practices at home and my predicted score is around 1800 - 2000 range.

My parents never went to a college or even completed highschool back in China- they both dropped out due to financial hardships. My family is not wealthy, coming to America for a better life had resulted in burden of debts. There is no college savings for me, which meant I have rely on scholarships. I have missed most of the school back in China, where I had to help my grandparents with the farm. Moved here when I was 10, now I’m 17. Past 7 years were constant struggles for me, I have to learn from scratch and had almost no educational foundations.

I wanted to go to UNC at Chapel Hill for both undergraduate and graduate school. But with my current situation, how likely am I going to get accepted with scholarships or even get accepted at all?

I was hoping to volunteer this summer at a hospital, but unfortunately, I will probably end up working at the restaurant… (I’ve promised myself to never work at a restaurant… 13 hours a day and paid with minimum wage… worst of all, I don’t even get to keep my earnings)

Those GPAs are great! I don’t see any drop! Great class choices, great grades in them wow, great SAT target scores! A B here or there won’t kill you. If you want scholarships, apply for as many as you can on fastweb. If you go to a school with relatively lower standards, you can get enormous scholarships. If you plan on post graduate studies, the undergraduate college is not THAT important as long as you keep your grades up, so I think that’s a good choice to go to a college where you just get many scholarships.
Do your best, you’re only human. Plus you sound like an AMAZING student, best one I’ve heard of academically on this site thus far

Chance me please!

If you are instate, you’ll probably get in. If OOS, it’s iffy. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but UNC OOS is really selective. That being said, you obviously have an interesting story, so use it to your advantage. Tell them about your background, why you have to work so much, and how working limits your EC involvement. Admissions people do take that into account. And try to bring your SAT up, 1800-2000 is a little low assuming your OOS.

chance back
