Hey guys…I’m taking AP Chem and AP Physics 1 this year, and I am seriously contemplating why I’m such a failure. To give you background information, my teachers are great but they don’t exactly teach the rigor the AP exam expects. I’m essentially self studying each class and it is incredibly stressful. To start, I have no idea how to study for chem. I feel like I understand the concepts but the textbook problems are always significantly more difficult than I expected. For physics, it’s pretty much the same.
Any words of encouragement?
Well, learning how to “teach yourself” will be greatly useful in college. Supplement your class with khan academy or other online websites, test yourself with these before you attempt the textbook problems.
AP Chem is known as one of the most intensive and difficult AP’s so you’re not alone. Figure out how to handle it and you’ll be well ahead of the curve in college.
Absolutely agree^^^.
Do you have students in your class that would form a study group?
You could do Khan and then discuss this with that group?
It’s usually one or two concepts you weren’t able to understand that throws off the whole subject and make it very difficult to catch one and understand the rest of the subject. If your teacher isn’t able to help you (1st you should approach the teacher during free period to go over things you do not understand.), then getting tutoring focus on specific topics and concepts will help. Although it may cost you money, many online tutoring search site with reviews may help you get started.
Also, crash course (on youtube) is very well done, humorous and clear. no exercises but makes things very clear.
