I would not expect to see holdups, hose, or any other like stockings on a tennis court, even if men were present.
Perfume on top of gym stink is a whole 'nother thread
Well it’s not perfume - it’s that after bath splash. At least I am trying!
I do agree on the legs. I feel like I don’t have particularly good legs - I have thick, muscular calves and don’t have those tiny ankles some women have. But I’ve just decided to heck with it - that is how I am built. I am a sturdy build in general, I will never have Michelle Obama arms or slender calves and so be it! As long as I’m reasonably toned that’s good enough!
Found these at a local shop. @Pizzagirl would appreciate them! The reviews are spot on - 5 stars.

Fashion is a fickle thing. I find it odd that nude hose are frowned upon, but I see many people wearing sleeveless dresses with black tights in the summer (which I personally find ugly.).
I wear pants, longish dresses (or summer casual dresses) with bare legs… or (gasp!) pantyhose. Sometimes sheer nude pantyhose, sometimes in the winter black pantyhose. In spring I like the look of sheer bone pantyhose with bone pumps - I’ve gotten some compliments on that combo.
Pedog makes a terrycloth shoe insert that wicks away moisture, making wearing pumps barefoot much more comfortable. I find that my feet are more uncomfortable wearing hose with pumps after several hours. I’m not sure why, but it feels like my skin can’t breathe in the synthetic fabric.
I also hate how pantyhose feels around my waist…I’m one of those people who is thrilled that they are now optional. I don’t think I currently own a nude pair, that’s how long I’ve managed to go without wearing them! In the winter, I try to wear pants or dresses with boots to all but the most formal occasions. A few times a winter, I get a spray tan and go bare-legged.
I encourage anyone who has trouble applying self tanning lotion evenly to try a spray tan at a salon. You don’t need to make an appointment at places like Exotic Tans (in my neck of the woods), and it literally takes five minutes. Many booths can adjusted to just do the legs and if you exfoliate and moisturize ahead of time, it really looks natural and perfect. You go into the booth by yourself - total privacy - so much faster and easier than doing it yourself. You have a choice of shades (light, med, dark). There are places where an esthetician does a custom spray, but I don’t think that’s necessary just for the legs. Honestly, since I’ve been enlightened about spray tans, I don’t even buy self tanner and threw what I had at home away.
Because they make the fit tighter, they work better on shoes that are a little loose.
^^My legs will look like Donald Trump’s face
I’ve had spray tans and they are SOooo different from the orange of old. Extremely natural looking - only you would know. Not fake at all.
How long do the spray tans last? I really don’t want it anywhere but my legs…just some color so I don’t have totally white legs.
The only reason I miss tanning booths is for my legs. I would go once before springbreak, cover my face and chest. I haven’t gone in several years now.
Wouldn’t it look funny if you legs had color but your arms/face did not?
Not orangey in the slightest. I am a fair blue-eyed blonde, but without pink or red undertones and no freckles…probably have German skin. I get the medium, which is just enough to slightly mask my many spider veins and give me a smooth, even look. I think it’s fine if the legs are darker than the rest of the body (wearing hose obviously makes the legs look different), and anyway, our arms and legs are often slightly darker than the rest of us due to sun exposure over the years. Before a recent trip, I went with three friends - all “doubters.” One friend has dark hair/eyes and pale olive skin - she normally tans easily, and the other is blonde/blue eyed with pinkish undertones who tans to a golden color. We all got the medium shade and we all looked really great (or at least much improved afterward), IMO.
I only want to get rid of the white legs. I’m already light olive skinned, but I want just a tiny color on my legs. They seem to be whiter than the rest of my body. So much shows in shorts.
The really wonderful thing is that I don’t care if anyone thinks I’m out of style or not. I’m not 15 any more, that’s for sure. Nor do I travel in circles where it’s an issue.
If they’re good enough for the Duchess of Cambridge, they’re good enough for me.
I’m not usually a skirt-wearer, but I recently attended a formal event with my D and bought a dress for it. With great fear and trembling, I told her I just wasn’t comfortable with bare legs, especially in a fancy situation. I figured she’d say Absolutely not! but my surprise she was totally OK with being seen with a woman wearing hose. Her attitude was, “Wear what you’re comfortable with.”
So I put myself into the hands of a Nordstrom saleswoman, and told her I wanted high-quality, and the sheerest possible. I was very pleased with the way they looked, and I didn’t feel half-dressed as I would have without them. Nylons have come a long way from the L’eggs we wore back in the 70s.
IMO, I would rather put a thin layer of sheer nylon around my legs than stain my epithelium with a compound that covalently reacts with amino acids in my skin and is not FDA-approved for spray-tanning or use around eyes and for contact with mucous membranes… But I am a chemist.
You asked???
My daughter is in the early stages of planning her wedding. No matter what sort of dress I decide to wear to the wedding, I will be wearing hosiery with it. And it would not occur to me to ask her whether this is OK. I love her, I respect her, and yes, this is her event (and her fiance’s ). But they’re my legs.
Her attitude was, “Wear what you’re comfortable with.” - Yes!
There are a lot of fashion looks that to me seem awkward and over the top. Or too much like others in the room. But that’s ok, as long it’s appropriate. (For example, I still think cleavage is wrong in most business workplaces. And jeans too casual at a formal or even semi-formal wedding. etc.
If the outfit is appropriate and puts the person in their comfort zone for the occasion, then that’s what it’s all about. We don’t all have to look like clones of each other.
@Marian I was being mostly tongue in cheek. I was going to wear hose regardless, but I was trying to get a feel for whether I needed to brace myself to be the only woman there without bare legs.

Isn’t it inevitable that all that stuff will eventually come to be yet another cause of cancer?
