I found the Hotchkiss New Student Handbook from 2011 and it said basically that girls just had to wear skirts/dresses, no jeans, blouses/shirts, no spaghetti strap or strapless tops, and shoes/boots, no sandals.
However I saw something about no 'patch pockets' when I was perusing these forums and that confused me a little. I'm coming from public school so I'm going to need to buy almost a whole new wardrobe. However, when I was looking at clothes (I know I won't start at Hotchkiss until September but I like to be prepared early!), and I can't seem to find any dressy-ish pants without patch pockets that weren't like, SUPER formal.

Is this 'no patch pockets' thing a legitimate rule? Or do the pants just not have to be jeans...?

NOt for Hotchkiss, but my D’s school has a similar rule. “Dress pants” are required (or skirts) and they are defined as pants with no back patch pockets.

Stores like Ann Taylor and Loft and Banana Republic sell dress pants, but my D says no one wears them. She found “skinny” khakis without pockets at Delias. But most all the girls wear skirts.

Thanks! Do girls wear body-con/bandage mini skirts, pencil skirts, or bubble mini skirts?

Again not Hotchkiss, but I think we all shop in the same malls :D.

My D said they had to crack down on the skirts and give more specific examples. It used to be just no shorter than 4" above the knee. But girls started wearing those stretchy, butt-hugging skirts, so they are not allowed. Also, no sequins :)

I think it is extremely hard to find appropriate skirts at the appropriate length. All the cute skirts in Delia’s, Forever 21, etc are still WAY too short, even if they are not body hugging. And again, the girls don’t want to wear the tailored business suit skirts at Ann Taylor, etc.

What I think of as a pencil skirt would be okay, if it is not butt-hugging and if it is long enough.

I’m a current student and we got rid of the no patch pocket rule; it was a pain so you can basically wear any pants (cords and stuff) except for real jeans. As for mini skirts, as long as they’re as long as your fingertips when you put then to your side you’re fine. Hope this helps

Movielover, does that mean the skirts can be tight as long as they aren’t shorter than your fingers? And thanks for the info surfcity!

Hey, i will be attending Hotchkiss next year, and looking to meet few before before then. What is the the dress code for both females and males?

I was wondering about the dress code as well and found hotchkiss lookbook. I found that its been pretty helpful in trying to find clothes. It’s got boys and girls on there and for me it gave me sort of an outline for what’s allowed.

@confusedonhades, are you enrolled in Hotchkiss?

@oxfordman no but I was just accepted and will be attending
