Feeling matronly wearing nude hose but what else to do?

Spring is hard to dress got work? I want to wear lighter colored tops with my skirts…but it’s really just not time here to go with bare legs. Tights are too hot in 60 degree weather and sheer black hose look strange with a pink top, etc…too winter. So what are we supposed to wear when it’s too early for open toed shoes or bare legs? I have many more skirts than pants.

Conmama- I know what you mean. Last fall when D got married I bought Donna Karan “The Nudes” hose which are very sheer and really looked like I was not wearing hose at all.

Kate Middleton doesn’t have a problem wearing nude hose.

My legs have cellulite so they look so much better in hose than without them. I do feel matronly, but I know I look better. I just try to keep them as “unnoticeable” as possible.

Nude hose being “out” is not a trend I was even remotely familiar with, LOL. I heard it here! I wore pants everywhere I could get away with it. Oct. 2013 I wore hose at my son’s wedding. I had no idea I was committing such a faux pas! Goes to show you how much I know about high fashion. When did this phenomenon come about and why?
And as for “matronly”, well, yes, yes I am, as a matter of fact. And no one wants to see my bare legs, trust me.

My poor former boss used to look like she was freezing to death and her bare legs were all mottled looking. It looks so uncomfortable. And she had gorgeous dresses. But her poor, cold legs. SMH.

I want nude hose to come back in style.

I almost always wear pants. But certain occasions call for a dress…I’m with @VaBluebird — I didn’t know wearing nude hose was unfashionable.
Please enlighten me! Am I suppose to go bare legged when wearing a dress say for a semi-formal or even formal occasion? Or is it just the nude hose that’s an issue?

They are out of style, unfortunately, as I think there is a great need for them. I don’t know when that happened. I wish the younger generation would resurrect them to be in fashion again. I’ll wear them in the spring, but I don’t like feeling mattonly. But I have no choice…hurry up warm weather!

@Pizzagirl suggested nude fishnet hose in a thread a while back. You can do a CC search for the thread. But just don’t make the mistake I did and google “nude fishnet”-- holy crap, my retinas are still burning from that…

@GMTplus7 : of course i had to do just that, and it sure gave me a laugh for the morning!

If I could turn back the clock 30 years, I’d skip stockings. Now, I wear the sheerest hosiery I can find in my size. I still get “sticker shock” over the cost, but tell myself that I wear it so rarely that it won’t matter in the long run.

oops i guess i am out of style
darn

I’d wear nude stockings. Unless I’m at an informal event, I wear thigh highs and heels. But it’s not a problem for me because I don’t consider them matronly.

I’d use the self-tanner on your legs.

I haven’t worn hose even once since we moved to the SW 17 years ago but, if I did, I’d wear nude. How the heck can something so neutral go out of style? Who’s making these decisions? I say just wear 'em, ladies!

It is considered super tacky in southeastern Florida. I’m not fashionable at all and even I know this.

When I first moved to Florida I couldn’t believe how women attorneys would wear bare legs with skirts.

To me it’s a heck of alot nicer looking to wear nude hose.

I personally do not find pale, goosebump-covered skin more appealing than an almost invisible layer of sheer nylon. Call me outdated.

UK Tights has some great options for nude hose, and some of their offerings are not that outrageous. Look for “ladder-resistant” hose (if it develops a hole, it will not run). They even have a section of “cheap tights,” lol.

(Dang autocorrect !)

One benefit of hose I really miss was that they made wearing shoes/high heels so much more comfortable.

^^that is so so true. Plus I hate sweating directly into my nice shoes.

I noticed, too, that the shoes/high heels don’t last as long without being worn with hose.
