Fellows W/E??

My daughter and I just returned from fellows w/e. I thought the school did a fine job, although I thought Saturday was a very long day. My daughter was exhausted--she was there for two different fellows program and did not finish her day until 5 p.m. Certainly there were lots of kids vying for the limited number of spots and scholarships, but I think the school tried to gather as much info on the candidates as they could in this kind of set up. I also thought the parent presentations were worthwhile, though the saturday afternoon sessions were some what repetitive. We were so impressed with friendliness of the administration and faculty. We'll just wait and see what happens, but all in all, we thought the w/e provided an opportunity to get to know the school better. Does anyone care to share their thoughts on the experience?

My son also is exhausted. He was there on Friday for Musical Theatre auditions and Fellows on Saturday. I was his third trip to Elon and he loves the Campus as well as the faculty and students.
I guess it's just a wait and see on both events. I think it was more tiring for me with all the waiting around in between meetings. Overall a good experience that was very well organized.

jah - were you by any chance seated in the center of the 2nd row of the Arts Center auditorium on Saturday morning? I sat next to a couple from Chicago and thought it might have been you (you mentioned in a previous post that you were from the Chicago area).

We enjoyed Fellows weekend, as well. We arrived on Friday and did the residence hall tour and the receptions that evening. The Fellows hosts were excellent -- eager to answer any questions we had and didn't wait for us to approach them. They were very friendly and approached us to strike up a conversation and ask about S's interests. We also spoke with a professor in S's possible major, which S enjoyed very much.

The Saturday activities were tiring, but I guess with so many kids to interview, they had to space it out the way they did. We had a lot of time to kill between 12 and 2:45 but it seemed to go quickly after that. S was interviewing for Honors and Elon College Fellows, but the Leadership Fellows candidates had the longest day, with that extra session at the end.

patsmom-i was near the front of McCrary (???) for Dr. Lambert's presentation, but i was not with my husband. grace likes everything about elon, but she is not feeling like she is meeting kids who are (in her words) "my kind of peeps". she thought the kids were nice, but only met one or two that she felt would want to hang around with on the w/e's. i don't know if she is being too superficial, but i don't want to talk her into a "fit"--shes got to feel it or foresee it for herself. we'll see....

Any thoughts on which dorms were better/worst, convenient/inconvenient, kept up/run down?

lderochi, the dorms we saw were pretty much alike inside, to tell you the truth. The exception was the Honors Pavilion, which was a new building with only 11 rooms (suite-style) and a couple of classrooms. It was very nice inside but the rooms were a tad smaller than those in the older dorms. I really thought that the older dorm rooms were on the large side compared with rooms I've seen in other colleges.

The Learning Communities seem to be a good way to go for kids with a common interest. Several dorms have sections set aside for Learning Communities and our tour guide said that they're building a couple of new dorms and will have some new Learning Communities in there, though she didn't know what the themes would be - possibly arts or something health/exercise related.

what are her kind of "peeps"?

Does anyone know when Elon contacts Fellows weekend participants about their outcomes. Seems to me that other correspondence from Elon has been very timely. My D had a great weekend but she was only interviewing for the business fellowship so it wasn't as hectic. She enjoyed it alot. I sense she's found her comfort level with fellow peeps (?) - time will tell.

They said they will be meeting over the next 2 weeks to make decisions and guaranteed a notification by April 1 but hinted that it could come sooner. They didn't want to name an earlier date and be bound by it but I would expect that we will hear before 4/1.

all the dorms are kept up very well, danieley is pretty inconvenient, i live in the dorm with the smallest room by square footage and i have plenty of space. other than that, it's just personal preference.
