Fellows ???

I am looking for help from anyone who has any experience with fellows weekend.

D received an invitation to compete for both honors and business fellows, and she just received the schedule. It looks like some time slots honors goes to one location and business another. Does anyone know how that works?

She is also apprehensive about the writing response. The letter says you will be asked to write a response paper related to the topic discussed. It also says all students will take courses in the general studies program. Is topic likely to be an like a History or English paper or something much more global? D is anxious it will feel like the SAT writing section.

Any help to calm her nerves would be great.

Looking forward to the weekend.

Last year there were quite a few kids who were competing for one of two different fellows groups. The scheduled sessions are mostly informational so a parent can attend one and the student another if they wish. The interview and writing sessions are assigned to fit into the students overall schedule. It was very well run last year. The writing is not like SAT but more like a class assignment. Take a mini class on one of many different topics, then write a short paper on that topic. I didn't get the sense that it stressed kids out last year. It was a pretty relaxing weekend.

D particpated in Leadership Fellows last year.

Very enjoyable weekend and helped to cement D's decision for Elon. Great way to see other applicants and connect with future students...and get a sense of faculty and staff other than Admissions.

Of course you are being evaluated, so that can produce some stress, but just being yourself is the best way to go. Writing is a response to a lecture, as ChiDad2008 said.

Once accepted, there are many advantages to being a Fellow, so congrats on invitations.

What are the actual advantages? For both Leadership and Communications. How does the Fellows program give you opportunites not available to regular Elon students?
