ditto for my daughter…notified by e-mail, chose Honors.

“So should we assume if we didn’t hear on Friday that our children were not selected.”

No - assume that the people working on the program had to turn in their final selections by 5pm, not let people know by 5pm. Depending on the class they are putting together you may be notified by phone, email, or official letter… - Just like previous years -

Alternate for Communications Fellow for my D. Wonder how many alternates there are?

Bubmom, how were you notified that your D was a communications fellows alternate? Was it by phone, e-mail, or mail? Did you just find this out today? My S competed for Comm. & Honors Fellows but we haven’t heard anything so we’re assuming that he didn’t get either one.

Having seen bubmom’s post, I scurried off to check my D’s ontrack. Yup. Sure enough, there it is. Her decision was posted. LR4150, try it yourself. Good luck. :)

Thanks for the tip, I just checked and learned that my son is an honors fellow!!! Good luck to everyone else too!

S biz alternate. Anyone know if everyone who doesn’t get selected is named an alternate or is S really an alternate? Any way to find out how far down the list? We will just keep our fingers crossed and hope they go to the alternate list.

OnTrack shows that my son was selected as a Communications Fellow.

Late response. Fellows info appeared late this afternoon on onTrack. Now hoping to find financial info there soon.

My son received a letter in the mail today confirming his selection as a Communications Fellow. He’s very excited :-)

Hello,
My son is interested in applying to Elon University and being part of the Honors Fellows…since your son was accepted into the program, can you tell me what is credentials were? Also, if he knows about others who also received this honor. It will allow us to see whether he is a competivie candidate or not.Thank you

I could not get down to Elon for the Fellows weekend, because of snow. They are going to do interviews over the phone tomorrow, but I won’t be able to do the essay. Did anyone do a phone interview last year and still get in as a Communications Fellow? Also, they listed 4 questions on the blue paper they sent. Will you be asked all four questions or will they randomly just pick one question from the list?

Maple - yes, my daughter ended up doing a phone interview and was selected as a Communications Fellow. I don’t recall that she had a preview of the questions to be asked; in fact, she probably would have appreciated that since I do recall her saying the telephone conversation was very awkward.

Madzmom, thank you for your quick response!

I feel the same way as your daughter. Phone interviews are so awkward indeed! I would rather be face to face. We received a package and it had a blue paper in it with a list of “potential” questions that might be asked. They are a bit difficult, but you can prepare in advance. There is no guarantee those will be the questions though. I have no idea if they will ask ALL the questions or just one.

Questions: What are some of the most pressing issues in today’s global community? How would you address those issues? What are some of the national issues facing your potential field of study? How do you think technology will change the American culture in the next 10 yrs? What activities have you been involved in that have significantly contributed to who you are today? How have those activities prepared you to be a Fellow?

Does your daughter like the program, and does she think there are some extra advantages to it in being a communications fellow?

I saw someone post about “alternates” - is that basically a wait list?

Thanks again for answering so quickly!

They usually have alternates in case those selected decide to go to another school. It varies year to year if they have to use alternates.

Does anyone have examples of essay prompts from past weekends?
Good Luck to this years Fellows candidates! Relax and enjoy the weekend and get the feel of ELon. It is a special place.
My D has to miss this weekends event. This never ending winter struck again and all flights were cancelled today. She is very disappointed. School has said they will try to do something for those that missed due to weather. Did others in northeast get impacted?
GRC, they announced in one of the parent sessions this week-end that they had 20 cancellations, and 560 kids attended. I do think a fair number of candidates missed the Friday day/evening programs.
They were great. They did phone interviews over the weekend and gave a essay assignment due tomorrow. Very accommodating
