S received a FedEx letter today from Pres. Troutt inviting him to become one of a small number of incoming freshmen to form the inaugural class of fellowship recipients. It guarantees him an internship, research assistantship or service learning experience, whichever best aligns with his academic and career interests.

It sounds very exciting and he will have to give it serious consideration. Although he hasn't yet sent in his deposit, he had decided that Rice was where he wanted to go. He's attending the accepted students weekend in a couple of days and won't notify all the other schools of his decision until he returns. He wants to be absolutely sure. This Rhodes letter comes a couple of days after a surprise notification from Denison that they are offering him a $30,000/year scholarship. He had received the $15K Founders scholarship but was an alternate for the $30K Lovelace scholarship. Apparently the original winner declined so he was next in line.

Both of these offers are exceptional but my guess is that he'll stick with Rice. Although he loved Denison and Rhodes when he visited, he feels that Rice is the better fit for him (I agree).
