Feminism at Hamilton?

My daughter has fallen in love with Hamilton. Her previous top choices were Wesleyan and Vassar. I took her to Hamilton because I wanted her to expand her list and have some additional options. She had a fabulous interview, and a wonderful tour. Everything about it felt “right” to her. She came back saying that this was now her “dream school”. She had that “it” feeling that everyone talks about…Wes and Vassar came close, but this was on a whole new level for her. She is thinking ED.

My question is will a feminist (but not radical), liberal minded student who is into writing and film find her peer group at Hamilton? I know she will find other writers but what about film? She is not into parties, and really wants an “intellectual” student body…

Hamilton does have a connection to feminism in that Kirkland College had a progressive, feminist form to a fair extent. This does not make Hamilton a feminist college – the school simply does not define itself along ideological grounds – but the DNA is there for students who want to connect with it. For your daughter, an occasional road trip to Seneca Falls may be appropriate.

Your daughter sounds just like my daughter! My daughter also felt something at Hamilton. When she was applying to school, she also wanted film. For ED2, she was deciding between Hamilton and Wesleyan and just felt something more at Hamilton. She has LOVED every second that she is on campus. She is going to double major with Women’s Studies being one of the majors. A feminist culture is alive and well at Hamilton. Your daughter will not find a better school for writing. She also finds plenty to do on campus other than big parties. Yes, she will find her peer group.

Thank you so much merc81 and bwaygirll1! Your comments make me feel very confident that my daughter is heading in the right direction!
