Fessenden vs. British School of Boston

My 4.5 year old did not get into Milton Academy through the sibling admission process (totally our fault for not preparing him, but it is what it is). We’ve applied to Fessenden, Dexter, British School of Boston, BB&N, and Chestnut Hill School. Got accepted to the first three, wait listed at BB&N, still waiting to hear from the Chestnut Hill. Understand that Dexter is very focused on sports… We like Fessenden and British, leaning a bit more towards Fessenden, but can’t make up our minds… I know they are probably completely different. I would very much appreciate any relevant information or advice! Thank you

I can’t speak from personal experience at either school, but at least know families at all those schools. Anecdotally, I would say that if you are happy with Milton for your older child, you are most likely to like Fessenden of the other schools. Dexter and BSB are very structured – there’s a certain “my way or the highway” quality to both those schools. You are also correct that Dexter is very sports oriented. Being an all boys school, I would say that Fessie is also quite sporty but I think it’s much more acceptable not to be a star athlete. Participation counts there; I think Dexter is more about winning.

Thank you!
