Few final questions before moving to berkeley

Hi i hope everyone is excited as i am to move to berkeley (im a new transfer student)

I am finishing up my final shopping and had some question about that

Is there air conditioning/heater inside the dorm? I wasnt so sure about that.. so I am wondering if any comforters will do. or would i thick, warm comforters for upcoming winter... I am planning to bring lightweight ones if the heater does a good job inside the dorm

and i am in foothill triple..

What pieces do i need for my bed? would bed sheet, comforter, and pillow ( and case) would be good enough? or should i buy a complete sets, (ones that are sold in stores like bed bath and beyond and such)

About bike lock, my lock looks like this <a href="http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.1homesecuritysystems.info/images/thumb/phpThumb.php%3Fsrc%3Dhttp://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51zmUkNHyrL._SL500_AA280_.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.1homesecuritysystems.info/tag/cable/&usg=__n9YINvhCHnwyHRBeX9_i02Moc-c=&h=280&w=280&sz=18&hl=en&start=19&tbnid=GsEh-bNpqwMiUM:&tbnh=122&tbnw=120&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dbike%2Blocks%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D707%26tbs%3Disch:10,600&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=421&vpy=378&dur=1238&hovh=224&hovw=224&tx=107&ty=236&ei=YGdnTIaJJ4TWtQOwvInGDQ&oei=ZWZnTNmIEIyisQOn0KnmBQ&esq=2&page=2&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:23,s:19&biw=1280&bih=707%5B/url%5D">http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.1homesecuritysystems.info/images/thumb/phpThumb.php%3Fsrc%3Dhttp://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51zmUkNHyrL._SL500_AA280_.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.1homesecuritysystems.info/tag/cable/&usg=__n9YINvhCHnwyHRBeX9_i02Moc-c=&h=280&w=280&sz=18&hl=en&start=19&tbnid=GsEh-bNpqwMiUM:&tbnh=122&tbnw=120&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dbike%2Blocks%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26biw%3D1280%26bih%3D707%26tbs%3Disch:10,600&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=421&vpy=378&dur=1238&hovh=224&hovw=224&tx=107&ty=236&ei=YGdnTIaJJ4TWtQOwvInGDQ&oei=ZWZnTNmIEIyisQOn0KnmBQ&esq=2&page=2&ndsp=28&ved=1t:429,r:23,s:19&biw=1280&bih=707</a>
would this be suitable to use at ucb? or should i get the U-shaped lock that costs about 15 dollars (they seemed pretty thick)

about microwave
I know cal discourages students from bringing them, but I have a used one that I used while i lived with other rommates attending community college. It's very clean and still usable and i really want to bring it. Should i just bring it? or would they tell me to just get rid of it?

These are my questions for now and please answer them :)
and i guess others can post their questions and i might be able to help

thanks~

There are heaters. No air conditioners. A standard comforter should do. No need to get a super warm one.

Buy whatever you would like. I personally can do with just a fitted sheet, a comforter, and a pillow. Some people sleep with all those various sheets, and pillows, and whatnot…something I don’t quite understand.

U-lock would be better. I’m not all too familiar with locking bikes, but there are a few threads on this forum that discuss that, so you should check those out.

Bring it. They tell you not to, but I think that’s because they want you to rent from them, and they won’t say anything about it if you bring it.

Good luck!

Adding on:
2. As someone who overpacked horrendously when I moved in, just bring a comforter, sheets and a pillow. You’ll be fine. I still have like 3 ridiculous mattress pads that I bought as a freshman and don’t quite know what to do with.

Get the u-lock. It’s worth it. I don’t ride a bike myself, but I’ve heard from others and UCPD that the cable ones get cut through all the time.

Agreed. There’s no reason not to bring it.

Thanks again I am so glad I asked and got good answers

heater is more than enough to keep you warm. although if you don’t want to use the heater, i find a nice fluffy comforter never hurts. (I have both thick and thin…I’ve been using thin over the summer and I wake up miserably cold lol but I live in an apartment where the window apparently doesn’t close properly or something)
