Is it lame to say I express my interest in science by reading?
I dont really sit around making robots or anything so...

If you believe it’s lame, then pick something else.

If you think it’s ‘interesting’, ‘exciting’ or engages your ‘curiousity’ (I think those are the words form the prompt?), then write about it - why - how.

There’s no way I could judge what reading means to you.

It isn’t lame if it’s true. Just don’t write it lame and you’ll be fine. “I love to read about science and math topics - my favorite books are x and y, and I also love blog z. I’ve read x three times because each time I read it I understand more about the fascinating topic of q, which I hope to major in.” etc. Now if your reading really IS lame - you’ve enjoyed your biology class including the chapter reading, but you don’t do much else - then maybe Caltech isn’t right for you anyway. Good luck!

Good advice, geekmom.

That was generally what my essay was - and I got in. Write it well, you should be fine.
