Caltech Supplement

I'm really having trouble with the essay about expressing my interest, curiousity, and excitement in math, science, and engineering. I guess I don't really understand what the admissions committee is looking for...

Does anyone have any hints for me? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Forget about what they are looking for. Say what you love about science. Since you apply to Caltech, you must love something. It means expressing your passion, but since this word is overly used nowadays...Simply list what you do for pleasure with science. Say why you love science or whatever and relate your actions to this. I don't guarantee it's the best way since I am simply another 2012er, but this is how I treated it.

Thats how I dealt with it too. I spoke about what really interested me in science and the experience which really got me expressing curiousity for science. N then I also mentioned a couple of seminars and research projects I did which further enhanced my love for the subject - esp biology

"math, science, and engineering"

Is it "and" or "or?" I only wrote mine for engineering. But anyway, pretty much try to show your depth of involvement in sciences/math/engineering. This might involve more technical terms or a breadth of topics or just the amount of time you've spent on it. Talk about what you do, what you've done, and how YOUR involvement in science/math/engineering is different from that of others, be it more extreme or in a completely different direction. Does that help? It's hard to give hints in any other way because I'm sure how you show interest is completely different from how I show mine. Good luck! :D

Not to use someone else's topic, but it's sort of related. How long is the supplement supposed to be? It's says more or less a page, but approximately how many words would you say is the unofficial length? 500? 600?

And should it be single-spaced or double-spaced?

Around 500 words should be fine I think...

My essay is about 600 words, is that all right? I just mainly talked about all the classes I have taken at the local college. Is that good??? There is not a whole lot more to say...

Next to the essay prompt, I have "around 650 words," but I'm not sure where I got that guideline. My essay ended up being just under 550 words.
