Filing the FAFSA and CSS Profile again?

I'm in my freshman year of college, and I was wondering when those two should start to be filed again? Are they also due by the start of February this year? Also, I had a work-study position this past fall. Do I have to file the FAFSA or anything else for myself as well?

The new FAFSA will be available Jan 1st. File it as early as possible after that. Some aid is limited in funding so it is always safest to file early. I assume the feb 1st is your school's deadline as it is not a deadline for FAFSA itself - you would need to check with your school for their deadline for current students. Sometimes it is different than for incoming freshmen but we have no way of knowing a particular school's deadline.

Don't understand the question. Who else would you be filing FAFSA for? If you mean do you report your income on FAFSA then the answer is yes. It is not a separate FAFSA - it is your regular FAFSA and the income goes in the student income and assets section.

sorry but what is the css profile?

If you mean...do you have to file the FAFSA to get your work study again...well...the answer is yes. Need based financial aid (and work study is need based aid) is evaluated annually. As Swimcats said...go to YOUR school's finaid website and see what the deadlines are for continuing students.

strawberryMayo: make sure you contact your college about their deadlines. Generally, colleges would want them as early in the year as possible, but might accept them as late as the tax filing deadline. But you should make sure what your college requires.

thatsmekevin: CSS Profile, check the student's guide in this link:

so if my college and the scholarships im applying to arent listed, would css be a waste of time and money for me?

You only file CSS for schools that require it. There is no point whatsoever filing it for schools that do not, if it is even possible to do so. On the other hand if a school does require it you will not get aid if you do not file it. Check with your school(s) for what *they *require for financial aid.

Thanks for the help. Oh, and do I get taxed on my work-study income?

You complete the student income and assets portion of FAFSA.

You may (or may not) also have to file a tax return. Work Study is taxable income as are any scholarships/grants above the amount of tuition/fees/required books. Whether you are required to file a return will depend on your total income (including WS/taxable scholarships & grants) for the year. Even if you have not earned enough to be required to file a tax return you should if your school deducted tax from your WS earnings (you should be able to tell from your pay slips). By filing a tax return you can get any overpayment of taxes refunded.

ok, thank you!

Unless your school has a Profile number, you will not be able to submit a profile. Only schools which require the Profile have these numbers.
