Does being Filipino count as a URM? I know it's Asian, but most Asians at Princeton are Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Indian, right? So could being Filipino work to my advantage? I'm also part Spanish.

The general consensus is that the label URM consists of Native Americans, Hispanic Americans and African Americans.

But I would not be put at a disadvantage for it, would I?

I don’t think that there would be any disadvantage, not sure on advantage.

filipino is asian which is the same as chinese.

Play up your Hispanic side. I think you have to be like Vietnamese, Thai, Malay, or Laosian to qualify for URM status as an Asian.

You just answered your own question.

“filipino is asian which is the same as chinese.”

Ignorant post. Try telling your Korean friends that Korean is the same as Japanese, and see the kind of reaction you get. ;)
