i am a HS senior this year. i hope to go onto med school obviously and so this yr i am taking AP bio and Advanced Anatomy and today i did my first dissection. i am overjoyed. i wasnt grossed out by anything, other than the smell and my ridiculously immature classmates. granted i didnt do any of the work that required touching it with my hands, luckily my lab partner didnt mind at all lol. i was really afraid that i wasnt gonna be able to hack it, but am rather proud that i even did some cuts and whatnot. this isnt so much a question as a paragraph of babble lol. im just pleased

what did you dissect?

it was a rat. we basically opened it up and then indentified a bunch of organs and such inside. it was neat.

what was almost as interesting, was that i learded that the class attracts really good intelligent people, and creeps... this one guy didnt use gloves and like pulled its teeth out and was playing with the intestines and put it around his neck like a necklace and then my lab partner felt bad when he accidently cut off the little guys testicals lol.. its so odd to see the spectrum lol

I concur, I took human anatomy back last spring and we cut up cats and fetal pigs. One guy in my lab group decided to randomly cut off the legs of animals and play with them. Thoguh not nearly as bad as your case (intestines aroudn neck), they would have been kicked out very, very quickly. Did you guys use scalpels?

yea we used scalpels and scissors. it was a neat expierence. it really helped me learn alot. i was wrong in the way i thought about lots of things, ex. i thought the liver was small but it was massive in comparison to the other organs lol. if our teacher had realized what had happened she would have flipped, but nobody mentioned it to her.
