I just filled out the Fafsa with estimated amounts because my Mothers tax return is not filed. Is that ok?

Also, some colleges say you have to fill out a profile.....where does one find that?

Yes - it is fine to use estimated figures on the FAFSA, but you need to go in a correct it once you have the actual numbers.

Profile is filled out through College Board: https://profileonline.collegeboard.com/prf/index.jsp

You can look on each college’s website to find deadlines. Usually look under admissions for a tuition or financial aid link. Hunt around - you will find the deadline for filing FAFSA and Profile spelled out somewhere very clearly.

Sry, Im still confused,So I fill out an estimated fafsa and send it off to them. Then when I have the final numbers, I go back in and correct and then send it again. They will send the colleges that I chose both with the estimated numbers and the corrected numbers.

Since you only mention your mom and the need to fill out CSS Profile, if you have a father, then some of those schools may also require your dad to fill out the non-custodial parent form. You need to check with each school.

The 2012-2013 FAFSA became available for online submission on January 1, 2012. You should do it in keeping with the deadline for the schools to which you are applying. If the school has a January deadline…here’s what you do.

File your FAFSA using a “will file” status which means you WILL file your taxes but have not yet done so. Use the BEST possible estimates based on your end of year pay stubs, interest statements etc. Then submit it to the school(s).

Do your taxes as soon as reasonably possible after Feb 1 when you have all of your 2011documentation. Go back IN to the FAFSA website and amend your FAFSA to reflect the figures from your 2011 completed tax return and resubmit to the college(s). Change your status to “taxes completed”.

You can also submit the CSS Profile online using estimates. However, when you will need to contact each school to find out if and how they want the Profile updated with the 2011 actual tax info. The schools will tell you what to do. The Profile cannot be updated online.

This is the year you want to get your taxes done as soon as possible. It is NOT the year to wait until April 15th to complete your taxes.
