Anyone here use the 2555? In the section on taxes paid for the year, do you put the taxes paid to foreign country? It is worded something like "use 1040 form or others....." Thanks for any help.

Even if you file the 2555, the tax gets put on the 1040. The 2555 is only a Form attached to your 1040. Taxes paid to a foreign country would not apply to the FAFSA since it would be on income exempt from U.S. tax (the 2555). Just follow the directions on the FAFSA and you should be okay.

Thank you for answering. What I am wondering is a statement made in archived information on the nafsa site stating " your parents should also include the value of any taxes paid to the foreign government in the "U.s. Income Tax Paid" line item." I have filled out the section for adjusted gross income and income earned from work as well as the section on the 2555. Thanks

What do you do if your parents don't live in the US? (I have a friend who moved from Thailand 3 yrs ago and lives with her cousins/aunt)

Our income is only for overseas so we filed 1040 as well as 2555. On FAFSA form , on Line 27 on form 1040 should be the adjusted gross income - for us it is zero. But the wages we got of course is not zero. If I put as it is : wages as 23000, AGI as zero, the form is showing as an error. Could anyone can help ? I really appreciate it! Thank you very much!
