Is anyone going to American or applying to American for film? If so, what attracted you to the program?

I have been accepted to the School of communications and want to study Film. When I visited I liked the school but it was on a weekend and the SOC was closed. I am coming back to visit, is there anyone who has any information about the film program?

I have quite a few friends in both the grad and undergrad film programs. It’s a well-regarded program, and has been listed as a top program in places like the Hollywood Reporter and the book Film School Confidential. It has a particular strength in documentary film, with research centers including the Center for Social Media and the Center for Environmental Filmmaking. I also believe it one of the few programs that has an emphasis on screenwriting as well. There have been quite a few Student Academy Award winners in recent years, and a lot of the faculty are involved in big productions that they are able to pull students into. Alumni include directors and producers Barry Levinson, Barry Josephson, and Nancy Meyers, as well as World War Z author Max Brooks, most of whom act as mentors to current students. The facilities are set to get a huge upgrade in the near future, although the recording and editing studios they currently have are pretty nice. I’m not in the film program myself, but I hope that’s helpful insight.
