Film School Advise

So I'm a 26 y/o guy who decided to go to film school later than most. I have been down in Wilmington, NC for the past year and a half gaining credits. I slowly realized over the past year that Wilmington (a nice city and all) is not right for me. I am a writer and would like to focus on writing/directing instead of the grip/lighting (which is what is really taught here). I'm not complaining tho, it's just not for me.
I have applied to SCAD (as I read some great reviews) but I still don't know if it is right. I want to apply to other schools (to have options) but can't decide which schools to apply to. I can't afford NYU or USC (obviously my first two choices) so I need to discover other options. I prefer the art side of film instead of the money aspect and I believe the story is the most important portion of the film. Any help would be appreciated. I understand I already know the basic elements on how to make a film but want to go to school for the hands on experience and for the contacts. I think it would be an exciting struggle and welcome the hardships along with the education. Thanks for your help. I will check back later and if you have any questions I will respond.

-sometimes naked sometimes mad, now the scholar now the fool, thus they appear on earth; the free man

Iowa, Indiana, Pitt, Rowan (NJ), Suny Buffalo, Emerson,VCU and Arizona State all have film programs. I'm not sure if they have what you are looking for but thought I'd mention them anyway.

Chapman is the next best film school. It does give out a lot of merit aid. Same with University of Miami.

Florida State University has an amazing film school. At your age, you could move to Florida and become a resident. After one year you would pay instate tutition which is a great bargain. Also UT Austin.

thanks for the response. i will check out the schools you have mentioned.
