We're looking at film schools in the southeast mainly -- Here's what we have so far: SCAD, FSU, University of Miami, NC School of the Arts. SCADs the best bet, the others are probably stretches. We need some solids and safety schools. Can anyone help us? thanks

Any film program at a local state U or a reasonable match college would be a good safety. Especially because admission to film school is often based off of portfolios and not test scores. A student could get accepted to a college and then major in film more easily than they could get accepted to a film program.

FSU in general is easy to get in. However im not sure if they have different requirements for the film school. if its the general applicant pool then its pretty easy to get in.

SCAD is easy to get in.

Not sure of NC school of arts

UMiami, isnt wildly difficult. 40% acceptance rate. difficult but still very reachable.

FSU has a 53% acceptance rate, that's not widely considered "easy to get in". Close to half the applicants get rejected, and that's just for general undergrad.
Many majors are considered "Limited Access Programs", with tougher admission standards. The FSU Film School is ridiculously difficult to get accepted into. Much more difficult than all the schools you've listed at the top.

Give it you best shot, you'll never know unless you try.

From what I have read, the FSU film school is highly regarded, but difficult to get into. I think I read that they only accept 30 students a year.

The most recent data (2007) reported in the Tallahassee Democrat shows that the overall acceptance rate at FSU has dropped to some 46%. This is consistent with an increase in admissions difficulty nationally.

FSU's film school, because of its relatively small size, is one of the hardest in the country to get into. My son was accepted four years ago. At that time they were accepted 15 freshman and 15 transfer students. I do not know what things look like now.

You might want to also consider Virginia Commonwealth University and the University of South Carolina.
