I am looking for colleges in the Northeast which have a fairly good film program. However, as a B student I don't have the grades to get into some of the top film schools such as NYU or Coulmbia. Some schools I am considering which have film programs/courses include: Univ. of Rhode Island, Towson Univ., Temple, Drexel, Fordham, Rowan Univ. Quinnipiac, Marist, Penn State., Emerson, Purchase. Any suggestions or comments about any of these schools?

Ithica has a good one i think... if your willing to go west try ohio university-athens

What kind of film are you considering? Production? Studies? Not sure? If you are a master film maker, you can get into NYU or USC film production with subpar grades, although you would have to be pretty good to do this.

Columbia's program is for graduate students.

Look at the University of Central Florida.

i think USC is a pretty good choice! or Pepperdine...

emerson would be a good match. i dont think quinnipiac is particularly strong in film

Emerson, Drexel or SUNY Purchase would be the best on your list for film. I second the suggestion of Ithaca. You might also look into the University of the Arts in Philadelphia (http://www.uarts.edu/) and the Maryland Institute and College of Arts (http://www.mica.edu/PROGRAMS/bfa/video/index.cfm?id=365) If you'd consider the west coast, check out Chapman U, Loyola Marymount, and possibly Cal State Monterey. In New Mexico, the College of Sante Fe has a nice film program.

Are you a NJ resident? I know a strong film student who liked the department at Rowan. Another suggestion is Hofstra. Carolyn's recommendation re: Ithaca is right on. I've also heard that Columbia College in Chicago has a good film dept.

Thank-you for your suggestions. I know Ithaca has a good film program but although I can easily get into Ithaca College, I have been told I will have trouble getting into the Ithaca Communications School as a Film major. Funny, Ithaca makes absolutely no mention of the difficulty of getting into the film school in their brochures. I was also told that if you enter Ithaca College as an undecided major and decide to transfer into the film program, or even try to take film courses, the college blocks every attempt, much to the chagrin of students and their parents paying $35,000 a year tuition. Can anyone comment on this or verify it?

You should consider Chapman out in California . . .
