How is the film program at Barnard?
Are there many opportunities to act on on/off campus?

I don't know how they do it, but in my year and a half at Barnard I've heard of several students acting in off-campus theatre productions. I'm not sure about film, but I imagine it's been done and you could do it. The film program at Barnard is pretty small I think. You can read about it at www.barnard.edu/film
And there are a TON of on-campus productions. A ton. So many going on all at the same time. There's also Columbia Television (CTV) which produces news shows and a soap opera and probably other things. And I bet there's a filmmaking society.

You also have the opportunity in NYC to attend open call auditions for various types of productions, from Broadway to regional theatre. My d actually got a summer job in a production in PA last year. She has also auditioned for A Chorus Line and Wicked...mostly for the experience and opportunity to learn some great choreography. She is not a theater or dance major...

are the productions easy to find or do you have to search for them?
also, can you audition for movies?

check out playbill.com for free audition notices. I believe there are also video/movie notices posted there.

Look on the left side of the page for jobs listings....just check periodically.
