Im applying to Smith ED and i was wondering how financial aid is at the school. my dad is the only working parent in my family of 5 ppl under 30,000 a yr. my parents agreed to contribute a max of 5000 a year and they dont want me to have a lot of loans or have a work study portion in my aid.

You will definitely have some loans, and some work study as part of your aid. (We found financial aid was terrific.)

Your aid will be a mix of loans, grants and work study. You will almost certainly have a work-study portion, whether that money is sent directly to your tuition or is something you get to keep for your personal expenses can't be known until you get your offer.

Smith is known for having good financial aid, but as an ED candidate, you also sacrifice the opportunity to compare various financial aid offers from different schools, and even though you get accepted in the fall and send in your financial aid paperwork in the fall, you won't find out what your package is until the spring, when it will be too late to re-apply to other schools.

I would reccommend in your situation to apply regular decision to Smith and several schools and see where your financial aid might be the best. At least that way when you do get your aid offers, you'll have more than one option.
