Fin-Aid & Early Decision?

is it true that if you apply early decision to a school, you will not receieve as muh finacial aid as those applying under regular decision?

i asked one of the reps for Duke , & she told me that "Going early or regular decision has absolutely no bearing on your financial aid package. If admitted, you will get the identical package, and the same scholarship consideration."

but ... i hear that alot of ED applicants get very little fin aid...

Pretty much. Do you honestly believe a school will offer you the exact same package if accepted ED - when they already know you will be coming regardless of how much they give you - vs. accepted RD - when they use money to woo you in?

On a similarly heartless, but tragically true note, what college would bluntly state that ED and RD packages will differ? It's bad politics and PR.

Here's an old link for ref: <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=74054%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=74054</a></p>

well, I refute the arguement provided above. I dont think gettting in ED decreases ur fin aid package. in fact, i believe u cud actually bag out a better package. getting in ed does not necessarily mean u have to go there if the financial package is not as good as u asked for; in which case u can terminate the agreement abt ED. so how ll the college benefit by not giving good aid to smn whose first choice is to come to that college itself? it will definitely be misuse of the ED agreement if a college could do something as heinous as that and ED would loose its appeal.
