Hey! so i was recently accepted to Fordham Lincoln Center from the waitlist and only have until next Tuesday to decide if I wish to attend. Fordham gave me 16,000 a year in grant aid but that still is not enough. Is it possible if I called the school and explained my parents financial circumstances in greater detail such as the debt they have & all my brothers student loans they would be willing to offer me more? I would need about 10,000 more to realistically attend Fordham in the fall. Is it worth trying or is it just a lost cause? Thanks!

It can’t hurt to ask.

It never hurts to ask. But we have to ask :

Are you willing to take any loans? Wasnt that part of your package?

If you can’t afford it because of circumstances, then is there a reason you applied to such an expensive school? Not being smug, just realistic. What are you other schools and are they more affordable?

Fordham is outstanding. But be careful with costs.

Yes I am completely willing to take on loans. Even if fordham decides to give me 10,000 more the 30k + difference would be all loans, my parents cannot cosign much more then that.

In all honesty I applied to Fordham because it was a fantastic school & I heard from numerous people that with the generous amount of grant money they give the school is affordable.

From the very beginning Fordham and The College of New Jersey were my number one choices. TCNJ always seemed to be the better choice because I am instate & already know the campus entirely due to my brother just graduating there. Unfortunately to my entire family’s surprise I was waitlisted from TCNJ and still have heard nothing back, so my chances seem slim. As of now I have a deposit in Rowan U. It is incredibly cheap & i would be commuting there, it’s just not where I hoped to go to school.

Other schools I was accepted too were not realistic at all with the money they gave- SJU, Penn State Main Campus, Loyola Maryland, Udel.

Do you think if I called fordham & asked if my admission to Lincoln Center could be deferred for a year they would allow that? Thanks!

Financial folks were awesome. There is an appeal process that really isnt advertised. Get ALL of your financials in front of you. Come up with a dollar amount that you think you need to make Fordham happen. Have a plan on how you are going to pay the balance. Student loans, cash, parent loans, home equity, gift money. The process will be thorough, but if you can prove the need, the financial aid folks can help. Origianl offer, updated offer and appealed final offer were not in the same neighborhood.

As far as Soverigndebt goes with asking why apply to such an expensive school? You never know what the aid package was going to be and how genorous the school would be. Sticker price and actual cost are totally different animals. Without applying you would have never known.

I’ll say this much, I’ll be attending Fordham for about the same cost my brother attends a state school. You dont know unless you ask. Good luck!

Go Rangers!
