I first took the ACT in April of junior year, and took it for the second time in June. My first score was a 29, and my second score was a 28. I have just started senior year and recently took the ACT with writing for the third time on September 14th. I received my multiple choice scores yesterday and they were…exactly the same as the first ACT I took. It is a vast understatement that I am unhappy with my score. I want to improve it, but at the same time, applications season has just started, and I don’t know whether I should risk falling behind on my applications just to retake the test. What hurts the most though, is that I actually thought I did well this time and had a fair chance of improving.
Which colleges are you applying to and what are their 25th-75th percentiles? It really comes down to that when deciding if you want to retake again. From what I’ve read, it is better to focus on strengthening other aspects of your application (essays, ECs) if you have a lower ACT score than what admitted students typically have, especially since it is the third sitting.
