Final Chances & EA/ED advice: Northwestern, UChicago, Georgetown, Stanford

Hey, I was wondering what my final chances would be for these schools(ignoring my safeties, I have them): Georgetown, Stanford, Northwestern, University of Chicago

I would love to attend any of these four schools, but Stanford is my top choice. The rest are tied for second, so if Stanford wouldn't be a good EA then I would love to apply for Gtown & Uchicago's EA, or apply to Northwestern's ED, or apply all four RD and hope for the best?

I posted this thread to truly gain insight into which of the four options listed above I should pursue in regards to which would be the safest bet to get in to one of those four schools

Now, for my stats (note: Strong upward trend of 3.2->3.8->4.1->4.29[based on a 4.333 scale with blocking schedules])

Tentative EA/ED GPA & Rank: please note 10-12 for Stanford
9-12 W:3.71 UW:3.63
10-12: W:4.05 UW: 3.94
Tentative Rank: 16%

Tentative RD GPA & Rank:
9-12 W:3.77 UW: 3.7
10-12: W.4.09 UW:
9-12 Rank: 13%

ACT/SAT/SAT II:
SAT I:2340
ACT: 35
SAT II: 800 Math, 800 US

ECs:
JSA 12th Grade President
Speech and Debate 10-12
Medical Academy 10-12
Key Club 11-12
National Honors Society 10-12 Secretary
Volunteering for Democratic Committee 100 hours EA and 150 hours RD
Internship at Attorney General's Office
Independent Scientific Research with a teacher being the supervisor
JSA Georgetown Session I AP Government
Stanford National Forensics Institute
Teaching Assistant for Debate class at my school

Could i please have chances for both EA and RD, and whether applying early would be a wise choice? Thank you very much...

other schools include
Vanderbilt
Tulane
Claremont McKenna
UNC Chapel Hill (OOS)
NYU (OOS)
UVA (OOS)

I know this may not be the advice you're looking for, but I believe it's the right advice to give:

apply early to your favorite school, not the one that is most likely to accept you

with those test scores, ECs, and turnaround GPA, I'd argue that all the schools on your list are probable (Northwestern/Uchicago are pretty solid possibles in my opinion. Stanford, as always, is a reach)

^I agree with that, but I'd caution that UChicago wants AMAZING essays and almost everyone thinks they can write a great essay, but most are just good, and good isn't necessarily good enough.

But you've got solid scores.

bump.... any other comments

Anyone else? >.<; I hate college apps. I also have a UChicago Essay draft if anyone is up for reading it. =)

x9521 I'll take a look at your draft. Yipee

Ses, I think that Chicago wants to see YOU, and your essays are a vessel to show YOU. Your essays do not have to be amazing and sparkly and transcendental in all sorts of ways. Most of my friends' essays were honest more than anything else, and they fared quite well in the college admissions process.

Stanford's your number 1. Don't deny yourself the chance of applying there. For those who are applying ED to schools like Northwestern, NU is THEIR number 1, and if they get in they will feel like they are crowned Miss America and they will not be asking themselves, "Should I have applied to Stanford instead?"

Stanford has a lot going for it that the other schools on your list don't necessarily have.

Bump... I am desperate for chances :-(

You deserve the truth: You don't stand a chance at Stanford (especially if you're Asian). The other schools are possibilties. Give us your race and APs/scores if you want better chances.

one of my good friends got into stanford with similar test scores. and somewhat similar gpa 3.8 UW, 4.2x W, 2330, two 800s with i think 6 APs taken by the end of junior year (which is pretty competitie, but not the most competivite schedule at my school). i guess it did help that he had plently of ECs, especially his remarkable list of piano awards. he won a couple national, state competitions and placed in an international liszt competition. He applied Early, got deferred, but was accepted RD. oh, and he happened to be an Asian Male from California. no sure about your chances though. good luck

^About half of Stanford's students are from California. There is a preference for in-state kids that they are trying to do away with.

As far as playing the EA game goes, Stanford's EA isn't easier than their RD. Look at last year's results on CC, I bet you can't really tell the difference between the EA admits and RD ones. The uber-competitive ones--HYS don't need to worry about yield. These have 70%-80% yield overall. They are not going to make a deal with the EA applicants and expect anything less from them. The slight advantage may be found in your other three schools but not Stanford.

Okay, thank you :) I'll RD.
