Congrats @Isaroo! Amazing choices!
Congrats @Isaroo ! Hope your journey from here on out is spectacular!
Congratulations @Isaroo ! I hope you have a wonderful experience! (It’d be great for you to come back one day while you’re in the program to help future aspiring artists by sharing your impression of the program.)
@remartin67 @CMB625 @Isaroo - I am crying reading your stories! These stories are SO great, the final decisions are all wonderful, and I am so happy for you all! And especially to @Isaroo, way to go, you did this all on your own, and we have all been rooting for you!
@Isaroo, wow, awesome! Huge congrats!
Congratulations, @Isaroo! As a parent, I am wildly impressed by those of you who are doing this crazy and exhausting process on your own. I hope you have a great experience at Minnesota/Guthrie!
Congrats @Isaroo great choice! My D is still hanging on the waitlist lol!
S got great scholarships to musical theater programs LUI, Stevens pt, and Millikin acting. He wants to Roosevelt who only gave him 5K. 100K difference over four years. Is it worth it?
If you have the money and he won’t be in debt when he graduates then I don’t think it matters. Coming out of college debt free is a great bonus.
@JCLmtmom - I PM’d you
No, Roosevelt is a good school but nothing stand out. Also the more scholarship, the less loans and the less that you have to pay so there is more money for other things.
@GloriaVaughn - I patently disagree with the statement that Roosevelt is “nothing stand out” - it is a well respected conservatory with a great reputation. The financial question may be a deal breaker, but the school is solid
@Isaroo I don’t think you ever posted on the Acceptances thread…please do
Hello!! I’ve shared a bit of my journey here on CC and from what I’ve seen of others’, it’s been a crazy, amazing ride over the past few months. I think I applied to more BA programs than BFAs because I wasn’t sure what I wanted at the beginning of senior year, and ultimately chose a BA that I’m beyond excited about
Background
- I came into this process completely overwhelmed and not knowing at all what to expect. I go to school in Asia, so I flew out to LA to audition and was thrown off by the amount of talent and experience people had. I go to a small international school with no drama department in the high school, so I prepared as best as I could through summer programs. Lots of these schools are clearly far, far reaches - I just did it for the experience and went in not expecting anything. Overall, I think I did pretty well considering a lack of training as compared to some of the people I auditioned alongside (I also didn’t have to make the font smaller or omit shows on my resume so it would fit on one page, if that says anything ) and I’m so glad I got to have the experience of auditioning.

Final Decision
MUHLENBERG!!!
Auditioning was crazy, waiting was crazy, and making the decision was crazy. At my Emerson audition, I felt that the auditor barely paid any attention to me and didn’t even make eye contact when she was asking me questions. I know it’s a terrific program though, so I was a little disappointed that the audition didn’t go well but it made the rejection a bit easier. DePaul was by far the most comfortable, fun, and engaging audition - I posted about the experience on another thread. This is getting pretty long, so feel free to PM me for anything!
Congratulations @avonweasley!!!
Disagree w GloriaVaughn–I think Roosevelt is a hidden gem.
I can’t tell if she was referring to Roosevelt in general or CCPA. I agree that Roosevelt is not particularly impressive academically BUT CCPA is an amazing program.
Great work, @avonweasley! Congratulations.
Congrats @avonweasley - I can’t imagine adding the stress of doing this from overseas. Well done!
First of all, Congrats to all who’ve posted decisions, and thanks to all who’ve offered advice over the course of the year.
If any of you saw my Prom post, you’ve read the overview…We live in a town of less than 6,000 in the rural midwest. Which is the weirdest thing ever to write, since I was raised in a suburb of a very large and diverse town several states to the northeast…but anyways. We live in my husband’s state. Our town is generally quiet,( except on friday nights in the fall) and it’s claim to fame, at least in our eyes, is that boasts a fully renovated vaudeville theatre. It is on this stage that our dear S grew up, first in youth theatre, and then later, in HS productions as well as community theatre. He he also performed in other neighboring small towns’ youth as well as community theatre.
Schools Applied to: Missouri State, Southeast Missouri State University(SEMO), University of Alabama-Birmingham, AMDA
Accepted at all programs applied to-academic acceptance with presidential scholarship at MSU, merit scholarships at SEMO and UAB-did not complete artistic audition for AMDA
Coach if any : does HS theatre teacher count?
Summer programs: Missouri Fine Arts Academy, 2015, residential summer program, Missouri State invitational Choral summer intensive, 2016. S has directed two original one-act plays, one adult, and one children’s play.
So, my S has taken dance at the local dance studio, and sings in the HS audition choir. He says he is an actor who can sing and dance. He wants a program where he can explore playwriting as well as hone his design and sewing skills in costuming. He has been primarily a character actor, does physical comedy very well, and has had leads in both MT and straight drama productions. He has been active in speech and debate, and placed at the state-level competition for humorous interpretation last year.
We have encouraged him to use his academic stats to search out schools which offer strong, guaranteed merit aid. Our home state offers money for high ACT scores, so that was also a strong pull to stay in state-we applied to UAB since their OOS merit aid was amazing…and we have friends in that area.
The interesting thing for me has been watching him turn from one program which has been ‘the given’ since MFAA, and fall in love with SEMO in September after attending a tour and watching a musical production. SEMO offered a meet and greet after the production, and our S was enthralled. He was also offered the opportunity to audition ( taped) during that weekend, and found everything about their River campus, facilities, and professors to be a ‘fit’. Proximity to St. Louis was also a strong draw…
Fast forward to January-S interviewed at MSU and was offered their Presidential Scholarship, a wonderful honor! He remarked to me that he wished it were possible to attend two schools…we waited, asked, waited…and finally, S told me that he had known since September…
Final Decision: SEMO-BFA Acting.
