@NewEngMTMom Contact Maria Porter and let her know you’ll be there. When I asked if they had anything going on that we could attend, they said they were doing the freshman showcase at 3pm and 7:30pm on both saturday and sunday. So - you might be able to snag tickets for one of the Sunday shows.
@anotherBwaymom I feel like we likely already know each other lol but if not …welcome to the Chants and CCU soon ! Let me know if I can be of any guidance. Congrats to all of you as you end this journey of a 1000 years next year you will be sweating summer stock auditions with us :). Enjoy this celebratory time!
@bexsky26 Thanks so much! Glad to know another experienced parent! I’m Very excited for what’s ahead and totally clueless at the same time! We had a great visit last week where my D and I ( along with two other prospective students) attended classes and loved the entire experience. She may have met your child! Idk but everyone was quite welcoming!
Love, love, love hearing your happy endings, @NewEngMTMom and @anotherBwaymom !!
We will be there Sunday at LIU, accidentally. We had a trip planned to New York and a free day Sunday.
@MuddlingThru22 looking forward to hearing how your visit goes!
@NewEnglanMTmom If you find yourself with alone time on Saturday or Sunday you can head west on Northern Blvd and go to the Nassau County Museum of Art which is a straight, easy ride. It is located on a beautiful estate in Roslyn. Even a walk on their grounds, viewing their contemporary sculptures, is worth the trip. (It is on the opposite side of the street than LIU, heading west.)
It’s also worth it to check out the Americana Shopping Center in Manhasset which has a lineup of designer stores similar to Fifth Ave. or Rodeo Drive. There is a mix of others too–an Apple Store, Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie and Gap/Banana Republic are right next door. Definitely good for a nice walk, window shopping and people watching. It is a bit farther west from the museum, on the same side of the street as LIU.
The Americana is less than 5 miles away–15 minutes. The museum is less than 3 miles away and will take about 8 minutes to get to.
Enjoy your visit!
LOL, @uskoolfish and @NewEngMTMom - a couple of blocks further west on Northern Blvd than Americana Manhasset is my personal shopping nirvana: Marshalls, DSW, and Nordstrom Rack, all in the same shopping center! Across the street is Lord & Taylor - woo hoo!!
@EastchesterMom Haha. I am literally done tutoring in Great Neck and headed to that Nordstrom Rack and Marshall’s now. It’s a dangerous (shopping) route home!!
@uskoolfish - wow, I’d be in serious trouble if I lived or worked that close! I grew up on the south shore. I discovered this retail paradise when my brother was hospitalized in St Francis. (He’s fine now) Now it’s a road trip from Westchester!
Well, a final decision has officially been made, and we’ve moved from angst to excitement! My S, who is relatively new to the world of performing has had quite a journey.
We used Mary Anna Dennard’s team (Moonifieds) as a coach, and remain very grateful for their guidance.
Son had a mixed bag or responses from schools, and his final acceptances came from: Wright State, Montclair, Missouri State, University of Arizona, Baldwin Wallace, Coastal Carolina, Shenandoah and Carnegie Mellon. We are thrilled, as well as awed by the difficulty to predict outcomes.
He narrowed down the list after researching the various curricula, followed by campus visits and the financial aid awards.
His final choice is Carnegie, and the sense of relief that has fallen over our home is palpable.
Wishing you and yours all the success, as the kids move through school and into the profession.
Thanks for everything CC peeps! You all have been a wonderful source of info and encouragement!
@beachymom - Congrats on the CMU pick! I am sure your S will be happy with the school. Don Wadsworth was one of my favorite teachers in college (he worked as a Voice and Speech and Dialects instructor at Point Park U before going to CMU. He is awesome. We also were coached by Gary Klein, who is a wonderful teacher. Here are just has a few things to learn about Pittsburgh. “Yinz” means “You guys” (or more literally) “You ones”. Downtown is pronounced “DAHNTAHN”, and all language is said by smiling, teeth almost together, and spoken nasally and very quickly. There is probably a Pittsburgh to English dictionary that you can get to catch him up fast. Congrats 'n’at! (translation “and all that!”)
@beachymom - Are your S initials CJ? If so, I know who he is and have been “following” his acceptances! If this is who I think it is, I met him at his audition day at CCU and my D has been filling me in on his journey. Congrats on the Carnegie decision!!! (though we would have loved to have him at CCU).
@beachymom YAY! Finally a Carnegie mom!!! My S has also committed to Carnegie!! We visited last week. Meeting other students and sitting in on classes was such an amazing experience for him. He knew instantly!
Congratulations to you!!! <:-P
@latinaMTmom - maybe we can connect? I’ll send you a PM.
@beachymom - Congratulations to your S! How exciting! I think I remember that your S was considering cancelling his CMU audition - glad that wiser heads prevailed:) This is such a fun thread to read. Keep the stories coming everyone!
@lots2learn - you are 100% correct. We are basically poster kids for the unpredictable nature of the college audition process! Ha!
I have been so thankful all through this winter that we never had travel problems for auditions and S never got sick. Who would have guessed that the mid-April visits to accepted schools would be in jeopardy due to a blizzard closing down all flights in/out of an airport we have to fly through.
@speezagmom oh nooooo. hoping things clear up soon!
@speezagmom We got an email from the airline warning us about flight cancellations due to the “winter storm,” as well! April 15 is NOT “winter”!!
