I knew UC Santa Cruz had to be there, but U. Chicago?

If they measured hipster by being socially progressive, then okay, Grinnell belongs there, but in terms of the clothes they talk about everyone wearing and any sense of pretentiousness that is associated with hipsterdom, then No, Grinnell certainly doesn’t belong there. My S who goes there was appalled at this listing and hopes it won’t turn students off from applying!

Can’t believe Hampshire and Oberlin aren’t on there.

The University of Chicago has a vibrant hipster subculture, but it doesn’t hold a candle to Oberlin and Hampshire, not to mention NYU, Sarah Lawrence, Wesleyan, Bennington, Evergreen, Warren Wilson, UT-Austin, RISD . . . .

So proud to see Portland State here…

UGA??? When I went there, it was sure not a hip place.

We visited Grinnell and got absolutely NO hipster vibe as opposed to Skidmore and Hampshire which didn’t even make the list. How can a school (Hampshire) go from #1 to not on the list? Maybe Hampshire is just ahead of it’s time and has already moved on to the next “hot” classification!

They call it hipster. I call it quirky.

What about Vassar? They’re kind of hipster and different.

Hipster is not quirky. I don’t get Grinnell on this list at all.

… to much fanfare. Those morons and web pirates at the HuffPo do have make the term folie de grandeur and hyperbole look benign.

What a joke.

However, they did name Carleton the friendliest college, and I totally agree with that! :D

Carleton deserves much love!

Unfortunately Carleton is also on the “nerdiest” list :)

I have a feeling it deserves that, too. But, hey, there are seven nerdier places out there …
