Finally accepted but wrong major

I was accepted to South Carolina today. I have a 29 on the ACT and a 4.86 gpa out of 5. I believe I applied with economics as my intended major and political science as my second. I’m really only interested in business. Would it be difficult for me to switch to a major within the business school?

My son got his acceptance letter from USC today, too. He applied to the business school as his first choice and economics as his second. Got in to economics. Disappointed.
We are from OOS and he has the same ACT as you but a lower GPA.
Curious if anyone has experience changing into the business school once you are a student.

I’m guessing you can’t change it now. But, you can transfer in as a sophomore year. You can spend your first year getting some of your core work out of the way.

Read the transfer info carefully. If space is limited, even highly qualified students may not be permitted to transfer into the B school. My D is a 4th year and at the end of her first (IIRC) they ran out of room and so took zero transfers. It’s definitely something to keep in mind when deciding where to attend.

In general, direct admission into business schools is important. (I cannot comment regarding USC’s policies, however.)

Switching majors was very easy for my daughter last year at Univ of SC. You’ll get a chance to talk to your advisor at orientation and your advisor can easily change it for you. My daughter switched from Chemistry to Biochemistry, so she stayed within the same college, but her advisor told everyone there that on average students switch majors 3 times before graduating. I was surprised at that number myself.

LuckyCharms913, That is what I guessed with transferring to the B school. Don’t think we will take the chance.
