Okay first of all, I know you guys see this topic a lot and i apologize for making another.
I started college in fall 2013 with an interest in computer science because my dream job is to work for a gaming company. However, I am terrible at math and it’s starting to look like I am no good in programming either. I have been stubborn in thinking that I can eventually get through it and I have failed CS and math classes over and over. I am about to finish my General Education courses and the only thing holding me back is my major classes. I am honestly scared about my future right now because I wasted so much time into this major and it just doesn’t look good right now.
Do you guys think it is too late for me to change major right now to transfer to a csu?
I don’t have any excuses in failing these classes. I’m a terrible student and now I’m paying the price. My family always ask me when I’m transferring and it really pressures me. I’m thinking of telling them that I want to change major and being the typical asian family, they might get mad and disappointed in me. That really scares me and I just don’t know what to do.
Look - CS isn’t for everyone. At many campuses, the majority of students switch to a less difficult major. It sounds like the right call for you. Info Systems is one of the top fall back fields of study - it is more about the application of tech in a business than about coding. Fullerton has an excellent program. https://catalog.fullerton.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=2&poid=446&returnto=141
Agree with @NCalRent that IS/IT might be a good compromise. How many CC units have your accumulated and what is your GPA? CSU’s will cap the # of units that are transferable and many times will not accept transfers over certain limit (Super Seniors).
Please don’t get stuck worrying about how your family is going to react. You’ve been at community college for 4 years. They realize that you are struggling to find your direction and they’ll probably be relieved when you tell them you’ve figured out what you want.
IT might be a good choice if you like technology and also like interacting with a wide array of people. You could also go into a more “business” related major. CSUs are great for those!
