How do you know what to study?

It depends on the professor. I got review sheet in my chem class, and my sociology professor gave us a sheet basically telling us exactly what was on the final. In biology, however, we were just expected to know every little detail from lecture.

Biology :(..I like it..but it's a lot of work...

I hope to be pre-med too....

Depends completely on the school and professor. In my psych class I was given a review sheet while a friend at my same school who had a different prof was not. Friend at another school in same level psych was not given a review sheet while one of her friends was by a different prof.

I love the classes that have non-cumulative finals :) so it's just another exam and I don't have to retrace back to the beginning of semester, but most of these types of exams are only in the intro courses, or so I've found.

One of my friends had a final exam that was just all of the tests copy-pasted together...must've been nice...

A lot of my professors/teachers have given us past exams from the class to study from, and some of them also give review sheets or hold review sessions.

Some professors give review sheets, some don't. Some "review" sheets basically contain everything, so they aren't really much help

Well... you go to class for 3.5 months. Hopefully you have some notes.

It depends on the class. Old final exams with answers have been pretty standard for my science classes. Some classes also have review sessions before the final. I haven't seen a review sheet.

All of my profs do at least one of the following:
1) include a practice exam in course notes or online
2) have an extra review session outside of class time or during the last class

most professors will not give you a review sheet. in fact, only a handful will even hold a review session. The hardest part about finals is to get yourself to sit down, a week before finals, and start studying a little bit everyday. If you can do this, you're golden, but most people end up cramming.

From my own experience, most of the professors I've had have either given us a review sheet, or spent a class reviewing things that will be on the test. Some do both. There is a chance that some of your professors could just be jerks and say "well, you're on your own with a culmulative final." I've also had one or two professors give us a practice exam, but most don't.

Bottom line is that it totally depends on your professor.
