my question for current parents of swatties/swatties: is swat's finan aid package higher/equal/less than your EFC?

It really depends on stuff that's not included in your FAFSA (stuff from your PROFILE). There's no way to predict other than to apply and see what you get. If you're worried about finances then you shouldn't apply ED.

Swat's projected amount for me to pay was a little less than my FAFSA EFC. Swarthmore's own financial aid app and the CSS profile was what the based my first offer on (I applied ED) so I'll see how they adjust it now. I don't really know anyone who is completely satisfied with their financial aid package, and I'm not completely satisfied, but my fin aid person at Swat is really good and is helping us work through it.

I was worried about financial aid, but I still applied ED - and they're being as helpful as I thought. While it's going to be trouble regardless - Swat's expensive, haha - it's working out pretty well. Just an argument pro applying ED at Swat...they do want you to go there and WILL help you! :]

well my ED finan aid offer from swat was very low compared to what I should have received according to my EFC
basically--I'm paying 12K over my EFC for swat, and I was confused bc I had thought that Swat was very generous w/finan aid.

Well that explains it. Maybe there've been changes in your household over the past year - if so, your FAFSA would show that and they'll probably adjust your offer. 12k seems like a lot...are you not including loans or work-study that they included in your package?

They aren't generous - they're matching. And if they can figure out a way of not matching certain parts, they will, like any other school. Wait for an adjusted offer before you worry though.

yea, thanks. I will wait until I get my final offer. I'm going nevertheless but it was just interesting to see the difference.

and yes, the 12K difference (actually 14K now that I think about it) includes my TOTAL finan aid w/loans, work study, etc.

btw, is that you dina? haha

Makes sense to wait and see. And yeah...we're kinda stuck in that contract. :] Ahhh well.

That's a huge difference. I'd think that that's either an error somewhere or just a major change recently...I'm sure it'll be adjusted!

And yes, of course it's me. ;)

haha, ok.

thanks, dina!

<3 <3

Nooo problem. :D
